Skins Set To Do Something They NEVER Do: Go After Free Agents

The Redskins have not been good during the Dan Snyder Era, and I think I know why, you guys: Too much building through the draft. It’s like, seriously, there are all these GREAT players with EXPERIENCE who are 30 just sitting out there, ready to lead the Skins to victory. Sign ’em up!

Well, finally, it seems the Skins “get it.” According to Jason La Canfora, Washington plans on making a “big splash” this year when free agency begins. CANNONBALL, Y’ALL! Let’s take a look at the overpriced talent pool they’re so interested in diving into:

Santonio Holmes. Is he the big, tall deep threat wide receiver the Skins need? No. But is he a better possession receiver than Santana Moss? Well, no. But can Snyder sell a fresh crop of jerseys with HOLMES on the back if they sign him? ABSOLUTELY!

Marshal Yanda. The Skins could actually use him, which means this move makes no sense.

Kris AND Cullen Jenkins. Both over 30? Check. Oft-injured? Check. Looking for one last pay day? Check!

Barry Cofield. An average tackle with no 3-4 experience. Sounds sexy, huh?

The lockout could well be over by next week. Start saving now for Redskins Store merchandise of all your new favorite players.

I already miss the lockout, and it hasn’t even ended yet. The only time they’ve looked smart in the past ten years is when they weren’t allowed to do business.

I have my Offseason Champs shirt washed and ready to go.

Allen did a great job cleaning up all the deadmoney and shit contracts to create a ton of cap space. I’m still hopeful we spend it on a dozen players instead of 2 or 3. Either way, I’ll be wearing my shirt in a few weeks.

FA isn’t my first choice, but I could lie to myself that some DL and OL help are needed.

And isn’t that what we Skins fans do? Lie to ourselves?

Picking up Santonio, Braylon or Sidney Rice for a gazillion dollars is a shitload harder for me to rationalize.

I agreee with most of what you said, but Santonio Holmes is deinitely a better possesion receiver than Santana Moss. Not saying he is worth the money they would pay him, but…

we will have 2 pay Moss top dollar if re-signs. Holmes and Moss are actually pretty close as far as their game. I would rather go after Sidney Rice. He is a big receiver with great hands.

Just go 0-16 this year and get Andrew Luck in the 2012 draft. Yes I’m at the point of pinning all my hopes on Quarterback who will be a rookie, next year!
