RGIII Behind Luck In Jersey Sales (GUEST POST)

Here with a surprising jersey sales update is PR guy Danny Christiansen.

Eli may have two Super Bowl rings, but this week he was eclipsed in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Jersey Report by Robert Griffin III. The Jersey Report is a first-of-its-kind tool that breaks down the best-selling jerseys across the 500-plus Dick’s locations. The rankings include Top 10 Overall, Offensive, Defensive, Rookie, and Heatseekers based on biggest daily jump in rankings for sales.

This is the third consecutive week that RGIII has climbed the Jersey Report rankings and now sits at No. 3 overall behind fellow rookie Andrew Luck and Eli’s older brother, Peyton Manning. Griffin III also ranks third on the Offensive Players list, and second behind Luck on the Rookie list. RGIII can catch just about anyone on the gridiron, and has outperformed Luck on the field and fantasy stat sheets, but he has yet to catch him in jersey sales.

Other Redskins notables on the Report are Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan, ranked nine and 10 respectively among defensive players, despite number 98 being sidelined for the year.

Keep an eye on the Dick’s Sporting Goods Jersey Report throughout the rest of the season to get a breakdown of how the sales of your favorite players’ jerseys are rising, falling and stacking up against the competition.

D.C. sports fan and digital media guy that's been doing this since 2004. Once threw a football further than Chris Cooley.

Based on my experience at the Chargers-Broncos Monday night game, I am not surprised by the Luck or Peyton Manning numbers. The place was a sea of Manning jerseys – both of Broncos and Colts vintage. For example: http://instagram.com/p/Q1DjYuRXtZ/

I’m guessing it has something to do with pretty much every Colts fan needing a new jersey this year now that Peyton’s in Denver.

Does Dick’s take into account when jerseys are completely sold out at their stores? Try buying a RGIII jersey any place other than the Redskins store – they look at you with a sad face and say ‘not until November at the earliest.’ Luck was over-produced because of the #1 overall pick status. There is no doubt in my mind RGIII will be #1 before the year is over.
