Origin of RGIII’s ‘Show Up, Show Out’?

If you watched RGIII on the Monday Night Football set following the game last night, then you saw him use the phrase “show up and show out” no less than three times. He repeated it on his Twitter feed early this morning, too. I was not previously familiar with this phrase, but given how many times RGIII repeated it, it seems that it may be his new “thing.” But where did it come from?

Well, a little JOURNALISM (see: Google’ing) reveals this song by Christian hip-hop artist Flame:

The phrase is repeated like 80 times in that song. And RGIII is a devote Christian. So 2 and 2, ya know?

“Devote” = verb. You’re looking for “devout.”

Can I trade my “meat and potatoes” shirt for a “show up show out” shirt?

I think this phrase has been around the scene before this Christian group coined it to a song. I can’t put my finger on exactly where it started, but it might be short sighted to Google a song with those words as lyrics and then say that RG3 must be a fan of this band, which he may well have never heard of in his life…
