RG3 Benched, Kirk Cousins To Start Against Atlanta

What began as a rumor looks to now be official: Skins coach Mike Shanahan will shut down RGIII for the remainder of the season and let Kirk Cousins play. The news is everywhere now, and the latest shows that Rex Grossman will be the backup Sunday in Atlanta, putting Griffin on the inactive list.

At 3-10 and with Griffin taking a beating over the last five games, the move makes football sense. But considering the mess that has become the Redskins organization since last Sunday morning, who knows the true motivation in benching RGIII.

Like always with this ongoing trainwreck, stay tuned for more; both Shanahan and RGIII are scheduled to talk later today.

I’m against this – at this point I want Rex Grossman in there.

Fuck Shanahan. He’s not just giving Danny the finger he deserves, but he’s giving the area the finger it needs.

    A thumb up the prostate.

I want a 1st round pick this year so bad; it’s like, all I want for Christmas…

Let me get this right… Shanahan asks Snyder to do nothing in the organization, Snyder does it, and Shanahan fails. …And Shanahan blames Snyder for doing too much.

Shanahan: Look at the red-leather-faced man in the mirror, Jack Wagon! What other head coach would allow Haslett 3 years as D-Coordinator?

And FWIW, I fully expect Robert to be in Danny’s box eating sugar cookies during the remaining games.

So Kirk will look bad and his value in the trade market will decline. Are they going to bench all the other good players like Morris, TW, Garçon, Kerrigan, etc? If he’s not healthy, he shouldn’t have played the last 13 games. If he is healthy, then he should play if he’s the best option.

Well, there is sure a lot of speculation out there as to what is going on. It is logically inconsistent to bench RGIII based on injury concerns at this point. Watching WRC last night I saw the breathless reporting about hinting that this was all related to Kyle’s future with the team etc. but the report was weird. She never came out and actually said what was going on. Anyone else catch that?

This is about the best thing I’ve seen about the whole sordid mess:

Awful, awful, awful. This is Shanahan pouting like a little baby. He knows his reputation is now based solely on having a HOFer make him look good (Elway in Denver), and that his legacy (namely Kyle) is soiled by association with the elder’s failures.

Shanahan is burning everything on his way out of town. This move is a big middle finger to Snyder, to Griffin, to every other player on the team, and to the fans. He’s doing everything he can to distract the world from the fact that he has been a failure here. It’s everyone else’s fault but his.

He knows Cousins is even less prepared to take the field than Griffin. He’s putting Cousins in jeopardy, physically and mentally. In an attempt to further screw the Redskins, he’s putting Cousins’ career on the line.

    For shame Mike, for shame.

    Everybody chill out.

Yes, Shanahan has been a PR/coaching/leadership/reputation disaster in 2013, but put things into perspective: THIS 100% INSURES THAT GRIFFIN STARTS 2014 AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE.

I have absolutely no opinion on the QB controversy or Shanahan’s future in Week 15 of 2013. I’m already thinking 2014. We’re not hiring a new coach tomorrow and Griffin playing “lights out” for the final three games doesn’t mean shit for Week 1 of 2014.

Does no one else realize that this season is already over? I don’t believe there are so many fans that are concerned about risking Cousins’ reputation as a QB to ensure Griffin starts 2014 the right way.

Griffin is the future of this franchise. So goes RG3, so goes the Redskins. End of. Saying that, he’s been terrible the last few weeks and has taken a POUNDING.

Cousins was a late round draft pick that fans weren’t to happy to see the franchise take. His story, his play, his character, and his reputation have only been a bonus. If he plays well, you guys can go ahead and call into Mike & Mike about his trade value and blah, blah, blah. If he plays poorly, so what? Griffin played poorly in the same team and I’d still feel great about him being the back-up in 2014.

This isn’t win-win and it’s not lose-lose. It’s a forgotten season already, so chill out.

We’re still talking about a 3-10 team; Dan Snyder wins again.
