Redskins Sign O-Lineman Sean Locklear

The Washington Post’s oddly-named Redskins blog is reporting that the Redskins have signed Seahawks tackle Sean Locklear, which is nice. What I know about him after spending a few minutes on the Internet:

— He’s 30 years old, 6’4″ tall and 310 pounds.
— His “mother is full-blooded Lumbee” (via Wikipedia).
He was arrested the night Seattle beat the Skins in the 2006 playoffs.
He played guard in college, which gives the Skins some options.
Sounds like he’s a pretty good pass-blocking tackle.
Sounds like he’s a pretty poor run-blocking tackle.

So, yeah, seems like a good thing, even if we don’t know the dollars yet.

D.C. sports fan and digital media guy that's been doing this since 2004. Once threw a football further than Chris Cooley.

They also brought back McIntosh (good) and Doughty (jesus christ, really?)

I am surprised anyone picked him up. The only reason he played so long for Seattle is that we could never get anyone who even knew how to tie their own shoe to replace him. This will likely be his last year, although I do wish him the best. He REALLY is not very good.

Doughty is a good signing, glad to have him back. He is a solid backup, has been overachieving for years and good on special teams. Good tackler just can’t cover, but shit, neither can Landry.

Skins made the playoffs in 05 and 07. Which one was it?

re Lumbee: i played baseball at UNCP, which is in Pembroke, NC, and happens to be on the Lumbee Indian Reservation. Locklear is one of maybe 3-4 last names on the reservation. I never knew he was Lumbee, but I can tell you there wasn’t one football field in the area and that includes the school.

    Go Skins!

Who was the last fellow Native American to play for the Skins?

Good question. I recall there being a lot of talk about this when it looked like they might draft Sam Bradford.

How long until the MI interview request goes in for Locklear? I know you must want to ask him about the team name given his heritage

The Redskins have gotten rid of all of the communications people I once knew, so I’ll just wait for the reporters to cover it.

In my experience, being Native, I know no one who is offended by the name. In fact, there are tons of us who are fans. How people from other tribes feel is unknown to me, but that’s my personal experience.
