Offseason Champs Update: Let’s Catch Our Breath

With the weekend fast approaching and a bit of a lull from the hustle and bustle of the last few days, now is a good spot to catch our breath. Shanahan is making this team his own, for better or worse, and things are coming into shape.

The Times tells us what happened to get us here. Training camp has started. In about five weeks Skins fans will fill FedEx parking lots in anticipation of the first game of the year.  Inboxes across the country are filling with emails trying to hammer down a fantasy draft date. Football is coming, enjoy it.

Hogs Haven posted a thorough review of where the Skins could go next. One name I loved seeing as a possible Redskin was John Kuhn, fullback from the Packers. I think it’s time to end the Mike Sellers era and Kuhn is young, skilled and versatile. I also hung out with him once at a wedding and watched him chug Long Island Ice Teas. Not drink them fast; he actually chugged what seemed like three in a row. Now that is versatility.

We will try and post anything big happening over the weekend, but I’ll also be at the beach drinking beer and eating crabs so it will have to be important. Cutting Macho Harris won’t qualify. Cutting Brandon Banks probably would.

Let’s keep an eye out to see if/when Rex Grossman actually signs. While the oddly confident John Beck is certainly maximizing his 15 minutes, Rex is still the more qualified starter. By all accounts Rex will be back this year, but until pen meets paper you never know.

Been fun listening to Beck try to pull Jedi Mind Tricks on the Shanahans. But quite honestly, none of those guys are the quarter backs weve been looking for.

This is a wise decision on Shanahan. He knows that the only way he can ‘rebuild’ the team and not get fired is to have a major excuse as to why the team isn’t winning. That excuse is we don’t have a quarterback. Yes my mind is warped. Can we get Leonsis to own this team now? I know y’all don’t like him but the direction the Caps and eventually the Wizards will be on is light years ahead of the Skins.

I think things will get better with Allan and Shanahan, Im not sure how they could have gotten much worse, but the organization, while still in disarray, doesnt feel as chaotically lost today as it did even 2 years ago.

Can anyone say theres a specific plan though? Imn ot sure there is, the Orioles seemed to have A Plan and we see how well thats working out for them. Still think the Orioles/Skins comparison is a good one, aging free agent signings, poor player development, poor drafting, dwindling attendance at games, finishing last in division, etc etc, its just much easier and quicker to make up for bad contracts and to turn over a roster in football.

You can keep up the O’s/Skins analogy by management trying to fix everything with a “name” manager/coach.

The Skins are taking an important step forward by not shooting themselves in the foot in FA. I like some of the moves, def going younger. Problem is the NFC East is getting close to lapping us.

Shanahan will definitely put his own stamp on the team’s personnel, just as he did in Denver.

    How did that go?
