Offensive Explosions Excite Tim Kurkjian

I love this clip (via The Legend of Cecilio Guante). It’s the lovable, nerdy Tim Kurkjian phoning into Baseball Tonight to discuss the Rangers’ 30-run game. His genuine excitement for the record-breaking feat is only surpassed by his rattling off of obscure stats and voice cracking over and over.

By the time he exclaims, “Is that the only question you’re going to ask me?” there’s an air of wonder and desperation that’s been missing from this particular program since ESPN began incorporating the likes of John Kruk and Steve Phillips. Enjoy it like fine vintage. I bet Karl Ravech does.

D.C. sports fan and digital media guy that's been doing this since 2004. Once threw a football further than Chris Cooley.

God dammit, if Baseball Tonight could just be Karl, Timmy, and Gammons every show, it could once again be awesome.

Eric “EY” Young is by far the worst of the bunch.

I haven’t watched the show much this decade. Is EY worse than Tino Martinez?

I think they cut Tino early in the season. And yes, he probably is worse.

Youse gotta check out this clip, too. It’s from the next morning on Cold Pizza First Take and he’s still giddy. You have to hand it to a grown man who’s not ashamed to act like that about the amount of runs scored in a baseball game.
