Caps’ SI Cover That Never Was

Alex Ovechkin was slated to be this week’s SI cover boy, which would’ve been awesome, considering the Caps have *never* graced the cover of SI before. Sarah Kwak’s story will still be in this week’s issue, though, so there’s that.

Update: Ted Starkey tweeted to correct me on this, sort of.

And here are two of the three SI covers Ted was referring to:

  1. So Bugsy Watson is the closest any Cap has ever come to being the cover boy? Looks like he’s thinking how much he’d like to punch Guy Lafleur.

  2. Great, so my favorite NHL team got bounced from the SI cover because some journeyman 34-year old NBA player at the end of his career went full blown attention whore and came out as gay? Awesome.

  3. Ironic that you call someone else a media whore when arguing why the Caps should be on the cover of SI. Between Leonsis and Ovechkin, it’s a cat fight of media whore-ism. If the Caps win anything meaningful – ever – maybe they’ll get what you long for….
