Hey, let’s play Predictions! Last week’s winner is Me, who nailed his Eagles game pick and should have a guest post coming. A reminder on how it works, for the uninitiated:
Our Redskins-loving “staff” makes predictions in the post, readers make predictions in the comments, and the commenter who comes closest to predicting the final score gets to make a guest post. Hip-hip!
Chris Mottram: Redskins, 31-17
The closer we get to the game, the more confident I become that the Skins will win, and win big. I realize this is a dangerous. But I feel like RGIII in primetime, at home, with the season on the line will have an amazing game. And Romo will have at least two big turnovers. And if you look at this subjectively, the Skins are just the better team right now.
JP Finlay: Redskins, 20-17
I’m trying to think how I really see this game shaking out, and everyone is predicting a high-scoring affair. Then I take a look at what Vegas thinks and the total is set at 48.5.
So something doesn’t add up. The Skins average 27 a game, Dallas averages 24. That’s 51 points. Vegas wants us to bet the over, which probably means this game is going under. Especially considering everyone will be thinking about the 38-31 Redskins win on Thanksgiving.
What does any of this mean? I’m guessing a low-scoring defensive game where turnovers kill you and the run game wins it. I like RGIII to commit less turnovers than Romo, and I love Alfred Morris in the second half grinding out clock and racking up yards. The Skins lead the league with fewest turnovers committed, and the Cowboys are in the bottom half of the league in rush yardage allowed.
It’s going to be intense, it’s going to be close, but in the end the Skins win.
Matt Terl: Cowboys, 24-21
I’ve been predicting eventual DOOM for weeks now. This would be the doomiest doom of all. I have no other reasoning. Also, why is it taking so long to get to this game? Faith Hill should change the opening lyrics to “I’ve been waiting 12 years for Sunday night,” assuming we don’t all die of old age first. I cannot handle the stress much longer.
Andy Peden: Cowboys, 34-31
I’ve been in Dallas for a week. I did not realize that everyone here is a huge RGIII fan. A lot of fans are torn because of RGIII and how bad of an owner Jerry has become. They also have no confidence in their team being able to win a “playoff” game. Of course, Skins fans are probably the most confident they have been in 20 years. When you add it all up, I have no doubt that this will result in a crushingly painful loss. Either Romo-to-Dez torches us late or Cobra Kai finally misses. When do pitchers and catchers report?
Todd Davis: Redskins, 31-30
Skins have (almost) always let us down in huge spots when we really start to believe the last 20 years. But everything this season has been about breaking down barriers and changing the dynamic (MNF, T’giving, offensive ineptitude, etc.). The truth is, I’m not sure we’re all prepared for what follows another worldview-shifting win, but, like we all said after Week 1 in New Orleans, this is different, right? This feels different!
Jack Kogod: Redskins, 31-30
I can’t think about this game for more than 30 seconds without breaking out in hives. I’ll take the Redskins. Now I need to go distract myself with food.
Me: Redskins, 20-17
JP’s prediction makes a lot of sense, so I’m going with that. And I know everyone’s pretty tense right now, but remember this: This season — with nine wins and RGIII’s arrival — is already a smash hit. Playing Dallas for the division is just gravy.
Composite prediction: Redskins, 26-24
