    Redskins-Bears Open Thread

    By Jamie Mottram | August 18, 2012

Bob Griffin’s supposed to play like half the game tonight, you guys.

    Kickoff: 8 p.m. ET
TV: Comcast SportsNet (unless you don’t live in-market, in which case you can stream it on NFL.com for $20 or over here for free)
Line: Redskins +1.5 (again, love that there are preseason gambling lines; Skins didn’t cover last week)
Beer: I’ll be drinking whatever’s left from my daughter’s birthday party.

      August 18th, 2012 at 7:54 PM

      It’s his aftershave, probably.

Why do I feel like a homeless man is asking me for money outside 7-11 when Randle El does his report?

    5. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:08 PM

Alfred Morris playing better than Betts ever did so he has earned that 46

    6. Puttz Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:11 PM

Why is the game not in HD?

    7. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:12 PM

Bob had plenty of room to step up in the pocket but he decided to run around like Randel El returning punts. Hopefully just first drive jitters.

    8. Donk Donkerson Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:12 PM

      Just thinking that…

    9. A Fine Messi Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:16 PM

Landry also flexed his muscles after they got a first down him also, so…

    10. Donk Donkerson Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:17 PM

      Wow.

    11. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:17 PM

Cutler and Marshall vs. Cedric Griffin is no fair.

    12. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:17 PM

The skins always pump up Niles Paul and Perry Riley and both have legitimately sucked.

    13. deepvalue Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:20 PM

      [Mutes Joe Theismann]

    14. Donk Donkerson Says:

      There you go baby…

    15. Donk Donkerson Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:25 PM

      Nice throw

    16. A Fine Messi Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:26 PM

      Hankerson lost a few inches.

    17. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:27 PM

Niles Paul sucks. Enough of this shit stain

    18. Donk Donkerson Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:27 PM

      Fuckin Niles…wtf

    19. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:27 PM

Niles Paul will make a catch at some point, right?

    20. A Fine Messi Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:28 PM

did the announcers just say that the ball that bounced off of Niles Paul’s hands and chest was “not an accurate throw”?

    21. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:33 PM

Yeah, the Bears announcers blamed that drop on RGIII. It wasn’t a perfect throw, but Paul’s gotta have that.

    22. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:33 PM

I foresee a fair share of infinite sadness with this secondary.

    23. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:35 PM

“Why do you have your best pass rusher back there in coverage?” Good question, Bears announcer, following Orakpo’s injury while covering Hester.

    24. A Fine Messi Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:36 PM

Announcers just posed the age old questions “why would you have your best pass rusher [orakpo] drop back in coverage during the preseason”.

    25. drewtabaga Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:39 PM

so i guess we’ve got to pray for dislocated shoulder vs. torn pec. just how i imagined my saturday night

    26. Puttz Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:40 PM

Please tell me the tweets are preseason only

    27. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:41 PM

Well, maybe a little pre-season ass kicking will be good for them in the long run.

    28. Matt Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:42 PM

These two preseason games are bout how season will go

    29. chris___ Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:43 PM

I’m getting a bear-centric commentating crew on AtdheNet.TV. This is so disheartening.

Then my wife says “Isn’t this the Redskins time to shin?”

Maybe we’re ok for the regular season

    30. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Holy jesus, Perry Riley got juked out of his jock.

    31. deepvalue Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:44 PM

The skins gave up a first down on a Cutler run and Theismann said “good job by the defense.” Guh.

Rg3 was waving the ball like a rythmic gymnast with a ribbon on that fumble.

    32. ms mayhem Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:44 PM

    35. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Welp, this hasn’t gone so good so far: three shitty drives on offense, two TDs allowed, and Orakpo + Meriweather injured.

    36. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:48 PM

Michael Bush is just bowling us over on the goal line. Completely different d-line performance from last week. This is probably a more realistic performance.

That said, Theisman needs to day.

    37. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:50 PM

Three sacks allowed in the first quarter.

    38. drewtabaga Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Listening to Theisman is a lot better than the C and D squad guys we’ll be listening to on fox all year. Seriously, him vs. jim mora jr and the host of destroyed in seconds is not that close.

    39. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Bob looked pretty damn shook in the pocket on the 3rd and long first play of the 2nd quarter.

    40. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:57 PM

And the Nats have fallen behind. We need something good that happened today. Stefon Diggs 2 TD’s in scrimmage doesn’t count.

    41. deepvalue Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 8:58 PM

Hey another “beautiful” play where the skins gave up a first down. Good job everybody!

    43. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:05 PM

Seriously, Carlos Rogers had six interceptions last year. Six!

    44. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:06 PM

Does anyone really need to see any more Brandon Banks to know whether he’s going to make this team?

      JC2?

    49. drewtabaga Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:22 PM

Remember when JC was our qb and he never committed turnovers?

    50. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:24 PM

“Jason Campbell is still the Redskins’ all-time completion percentage leader.” ~ Bears announcer Jim Miller

    51. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:24 PM

No winners in the first half. Only person who’s a non-loser is Morris I guess? Everything else was poop.

    52. A Fine Messi Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:25 PM

      Lorenzo Alexander looked solid.

    53. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:28 PM

Perry Riley is still a loser

    54. drewtabaga Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:28 PM

number 50 looked graceful there. Alshon Jeffrey is locking up a spot on my keeper fantasy team

    55. JDP Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:33 PM

Man why did Banks have to do that and now make a case for himself on the team

    56. deepvalue Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:33 PM

That was cool and the bears kicker pulled a hammy. Ahahahahahaha.

    57. A Fine Messi Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:35 PM

i think that made it 6 career TD returns for Banks in the preseason (unofficially). 0 for the regular season.

    58. drewtabaga Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:35 PM

would have liked to see RG3 work a 2 minute offense there…

    59. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:36 PM

I guess that means RGIII’s night is done. Cool return, though.

    60. Jeff Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:36 PM

So if Morris and Banks make the team, who are the odd RB/WR out?

    61. deepvalue Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 9:36 PM

Bullhsit randle el you did the spin and sit when you returned kicks for the skins.

    66. A Fine Messi Says:

    69. A Fine Messi Says:

Don’t give Jaime any more ammunition. he already ridiculed us SKINS fans over at Kissing Suzy Kolber. We can’t help it that we notice Orakpo being held more than the refs do, Jaime. They always be holdin’ him!

    76. chris___ Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 11:20 PM

Listening to Cooley on 980. I hear him in Doc’s job 5 years from now, if he really starts drinkin’, it could be Riggins and Cooley replacing Sunny and Sam in less than a decade

    77. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 11:27 PM

Cooley could be a hell of a broadcaster. I think he will be. I just hope it’s in D.C.

    78. drewtabaga Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 11:33 PM

Cary Blanchard leads the Bears winning drive. Kicker in like 96 right? I’m drunk.

    79. Jamie Mottram Says:
      August 18th, 2012 at 11:37 PM

We totally had a Cary Blanchard, yes.
