All-Star Game Littered With Nats, O’s And Possibly Bryce Harper

    By Jamie Mottram | July 1, 2012

MLB All-Star rosters have been announced, and they include three Nationals (Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Ian Desmond) and three Orioles (Adam Jones, Matt Wieters and Jim Johnson). Both teams also have a guy in the mix for the Final Vote (Bryce Harper for the Nats, Jason Hammel for the O’s).

The NL’s Final Vote is particular interesting as Harper is up against Chipper Jones, a sure-shot Hall of Famer in the final season of his career. If I’m Bud Selig, or Tony La Russa, or whoever’s in charge of such matters, I figure out a way to get both guys in there. Harper because fans want to see him, Jones because he deserves it. Of course, deserve’s got nothing to do with it.

(Note: Matt Kemp probably won’t play, so the ideal outcome is for Jones to win the Final Vote and Harper to sub in for Kemp.)

As for snubs, borderline cases could be made for Adam LaRoche, Jordan Zimmermann and Tyler Clippard, but I won’t make them; that’s Bob Carpenter’s job, apparently.

Regardless, at least six Nationals and Orioles are set to play in the Midsummer Classic, which is about four more than every one of the years since baseball returned to D.C.

Fitting a baseball in your bite – add that to the list of impressive physical feats. (Unless it’s photo-shopped)

two non-yankee/rangers AL allstar starters… gross. almost as shameful as the nba allstar voting.
