Redskins Reveal Florida State-y, Leatherheaded 80th Anniversary Uniforms (PHOTOS)

    By Jamie Mottram | May 10, 2012

The Redskins’ new alternate uniforms are throwbacks to the Sammy Baugh era, and the Skins plan to wear them twice during this, their 80th season. Some will say these are totally badass, while others will be reminded of Seminoles football, or maybe that awful movie with George Clooney and Jim from The Office. I will like them so long as the Redskins are winning.

(Photos taken with love from @Redskins, @dcsportsbog, @RichTandler, @Rich_Campbell and @SkyKerstein, and thanks to Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan and the Nike mannequin-type guy for modeling.)

I liked the 70th Anniversary version better.

A little history lesson: “That awful movie with George Clooney and Jim from The Office” was actually an indirect tribute to the Washington Redskins history. The film Leatherheads is partially based on the story of the Duluth Kelleys (1923-1925)/Duluth Eskimos (1926-1927), which (as you should know) is the precursor to the franchise known as the Orange (New Jersey) Tornadoes (1929), Newark Tornadoes (1930), Boston Braves(1932)….and finally the beloved name we know so well today in the Washington Redskins (1933-present).

My favorite part is the brown helmets

On second thought, they may be more Boston College-y than Florida State-y.

So Brian Orakpo is the go-to uniform model now? Is he getting paid extra?

Meh they’re okay except the burgundy looks too dark.

Dude, I actually really like these. Considering what most of the throwbacks look like (need I say more? – http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1150534-steelers-80th-anniversary-jersey-throwback-uniforms-are-hideously-ugly), these are actually uniforms I’d be happy to see them in. The leather look actually captures what they were trying to capture. Good job.

would have been better if the Geico caveman modeled them with Orakpo
