NY Post Headline Gaffe: ‘Game 6 Sends [Caps] Home For Summer’

    By Jamie Mottram | May 10, 2012

    Today’s Dewey Defeats Truman-esque moment (via @bruce_arthur):

Update: The Rangers are also selling tickets to the conference finals. Oh, and the Boston Herald ran a similar headline before Caps-Bruins Game 7.

Are the headlines the only thing wrong or did the whole story say the Caps lost?

Article says that Caps forced a game 7…

      Additional color from Mr. Arthur:

“Cutline’s a mess, too. Story’s just a plugger in the possibility of the series ending.”

It appears to be an early edition article written before the game outcome had been determined.

its not a misprint. it asks the question “A Cap on the Season?” and then describes the truth….a loss in game 6 would have sent the Caps home for the season.

Dont see the problem here….now, selling tix to the conference finals…..bad move

#5 may be correct. It’s just terrible writing.

I suppose #5 skinsaneasylum could be correct, but anyone who has ever learned headline-writing would know that the AP standard is active present tense voice is for stating facts.

If the person who wrote the headline intended for it to be conditional or uncertain, he or she is a huge idiot.
