‘Skins’ Wine Glasses (PHOTO)
By Jamie Mottram | February 15, 2012
You may recall Mr. Irrelevant reader Michael McElroy’s awesome guest post, A Case For a ‘Skins’ Name Change. Well, here he is again.

My roommate, who knows nothing about football or really sports in general, recently got an engraving machine. My birthday was yesterday, and I guess he remembered me telling him about the “Skins” name-change blog post I wrote for Mr. I, because he engraved me two special “Washington Skins” wine glasses, and even re-created the logo with a football instead of a Native American. I thought it was an incredibly awesome birthday present, and thought you might enjoy.

I once was passionately against ANY talk of name changes. But Tax-Evader-for-Life, Marion Barry’s latest tweet rants got me thinking…
Is it still the hollowest of hollow gestures to change the name due to claims of cultural insensitivity? I still think so–especially when you consider a name change acknowledges the horrific crimes committed against Indians but does nothing to improve their plight today. So what’s a name change going to do in that regard? That’s right, nothing. It’s kind of hard to be vocal about the name of a football team as long as poverty, joblessness and addiction remain rampant on reservations (something I’ve never heard Mike Wise talking about).
But recently I’ve been thinking, we all love the team, right? And we all hate Danny Boy, right?
So wouldn’t a concerted public campaign to change the name (retroactive to the moment Snyder took over) be the only big screw we can give to the owner? We can’t force him to sell. But we can do everything in our power to try and influence a name change out of protest to his ownership, can’t we?
What’s a change of name mean when none of us can actually recognize the team we grew up with in this current organization?
The name might as well change because I, for one, feel there’s no connection between the current Redskins and the Redskins of two decades ago. And yes, it has been about that motherfucking long. Enough’s enough. The old Redskins pride, image, and glory is gone. We might as well have a different name to follow suit.
PS. Donk, you forgot, “Liar!…. Booooo!…. he’s a liar!”

I believe Sea Dogs, Dragons, Stallions and Express are still available.

Well would you change the logos too horseyduecey?
The name should stay forever. One of Snyder’s only redeeming qualities is his insistence to keep the name REDSKINS.
ps Courtland Milloy and his semi annual anti-Reskins column can suck a dick.

I believe #2 got it right.
Logo looks like a team Willie Beamon was running on in an Any Given Sunday montage scene.

“Well would you change the logos too horseyduecey?”
I don’t know, it doesn’t really matter since many (most?) diehard fans are against a name change for any reason. Talking about changing the logo would have to come after any discussion about a name change (and yes, the pictured logo is piss).
I’m just saying, a name change wouldn’t hurt my feelings any more than the current (and seemingly perpetual) state of the organization has. And fans can’t affect any changes in the organization. Even if the sellout streak ends, Danny has shown his ability to amend the way sellouts are defined.
I guess what I’m trying to say, simply, is… fuck Dan Snyder.
I know that’s a message we fans can get behind.

Only name change I’m ok with is Warriors or Warthogs/Hogs. If it’s warriors I don’t want to change the emblem. Same colors. Skins with a football in emblem? Terrible.

I would love to see Horsedeuce or the rest of you try to engrave a better logo in glass.

That’s a weird perversion… even for the internet.
