DMV: Caps Fire Bruce Boudreau, Hire Dale Hunter

The big rumor last night had the Caps getting rid of Bruce Boudreau and replacing him with the great Dale Hunter, who was coaching in the Ontario Hockey League. [Caps Watch, Puck Daddy]

Sad day. Boudreau deserved better from his players, especially his star. Ovechkin better get his fucking shit together. If a new coach doesn’t turn things around, I’m not sure what will.
Also for the speculators: Hunter can coach.

How does hiring a guy with no NHL coaching experience get the most out of a highly paid but underachieving roster? I mean Dale Hunter is a famous Cap and had a sweet mullet, but we’re just supposed to believe he’s going to scare these guys into playing better? Really?

McPhee loves Hunter and believes he is an excellent coach. Having NHL coaching experience is not so important (Boudreau didn’t have any, Bylsma didn’t have any), but Hunter played for 19 years. He knows the league.

I think this is a good hire but we’ll see if this does anything. It’s up to the players after all.
