DMV: Ovechkin Steps Out With New Girl

    By Jamie Mottram | August 3, 2010

Ovechkin and his new lady friend, model Valeria Sokolova, attended a Russian soccer match. I’m only leading with this so as not to subject you to another photo of Haynesworth’s fat ass. Oh, and for the search engine juice. [Alex Ovetjkin]

“The Nats aren’t trade deadline “losers” for not dealing Dunn”– Not yet. The team really did luck out by getting Jordan Zimm’s draft pick for Soriano (and Soriano’s suckiness helps) but that was a loser situation in the making, and so is this.
How much has Dunn’s worth gone up since the deadline? Hint; he’s not worth less than before the deadline, you know, when the team wouldn’t sign him. So, chances are he won’t be a Nat next year.
Assuming that’s the case, what would the Nats get for him? Another sandwich pick… awesome.
I like the idea of keeping Dunn– he’s b’dass. But he must be signed quickly for there to be any hope of him returning next year.

Re: “The most stereotypical Eagles fan these eyes have seen.” How’s that news? Doesn’t everybody know they all piss sitting down? And can’t start until they pull their middle fingers out of the hole? Ah the micturation practices of Iggles fans, what a great Tuesday morn it’s turning out to be.

To clarify, Valeria is the blonde girl in the blue top, not the girl in the white dress.

horsey, I’m fine with the Nats not dealing Dunn, because they’ll either a) sign him or b) get two high picks as compensation. Either seems better than, say, Edwin Jackson.

Cookie, that’s a good clarification. Alex Ovetjkin has more pics of the lady in blue.

But that’s my point. Saying they’ll sign Dunn is optimism of the highest degree. It was obvious that both parties could not agree on an dollar amount or length of a contract before the deadline. And the amount of interest shown in Dunn before the deadline raises his price after the deadline. If the team balked at the asking price before the deadline, how likely will they be at giving Dunn what he wants now? To recap, before the deadline Dunn has; visited the booth of another team on his day off, expressed publicly his concern that the team hasn’t re-signed him, and expressed publicly his willingness to DH (contrary to what has been said about him in the past).
None of this bodes well for Dunn in a Nats uniform next year is all I’m saying.

I’m down with a lot of that, but two things to keep in mind:

      1) The trade interest in Dunn couldn’t have been that high if Rizzo didn’t pull the trigger.

      2) The free agency interest in Dunn won’t be much higher than it was two years ago when the Nats got him for two years at $10 million per.

I think we can look forward to Showalter “Haynesworthing” Adam Jones.

HD, when has Dunn stated recently that he’s willing to DH?? He’ll get signed.

Even though I came up with three sources quickly, it appears they’re citing the same quote:

Even if he’s dealt to the AL and is asked to DH for the rest of the season?
“This will be a DH situation for two months,” said Dunn, a free agent at season’s end. “It’s not career-ending.”

Nationals first baseman Adam Dunn has made it known over the years that he doesn’t like to be a designated hitter.
If he is traded to an American League team before the non-waiver trade deadline, Dunn would most likely have to accept that role for the final two months of the season and that appears to be fine with Dunn.
“This is DHing for two months or whatever,” Dunn said. “It’s not like, if I make this move, it’s career ending.”

Adam Dunn said he would be comfortable becoming a DH for the rest of this year. “It’s just two months,” he said.

I see. He sounds about as willing as Ben Roethlisberger’s bathroom buddy. I thought you were saying that he said he was willing to DC regarding next year and beyond. He likes DC, and wants to be in the NL, so I think he’ll get signed. The Lerners will try to low-ball him, of course.

Tone the language down, by the way. I’m sure you can come up with a better adjective than “b’dass.” Children read the internet, you know.

      …willing to DH…. I meant.

      …and Dunn’s on waivers.

We’ll see in a couple months whether Dunn not being traded is a good thing. But if the Nats can manage to sign him back then I’ll call it a plus. And seeing as how there wasn’t too much being offered, not a lot of options.
