Terps Win, Jordan Williams Says Hello
By Jamie Mottram | March 19, 2010
As predicted, Maryland handled Houston. What was unexpected, however, is that freshman Jordan Williams went off for 21 and 17.
Williams, who’s compared to Maryland great Lonny Baxter (color man Mike Gminski made the comparison tonight, actually), was averaging 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per before the Houston game and finished second for ACC Rookie of the year. Those numbers top Baxter’s frosh averages of 6.8 and 3.6, and Baxter never grabbed 17 boards in one contest.
What Baxter did do is average 15 and 8 in his sophomore through senior seasons, win the National Championship, get drafted in the second round and then get arrested for firing a gun into the air just a few blocks from the White House. So I guess we’ll see what happens with Williams.
Update: Tom Penders, who is orange, also compares Williams to Sean May.
Next up for the Terps: Michigan State on Sunday at 2:40 p.m. ET.

Poo Neck’s good though. That first half, he was unstoppable.

Now that’s just not nice. The neck part, I mean.

Coleman was AMAZING! Until he was made to go left, then not so much. He is very fast with the ball and if he ever develops a left, see you in the NBA, warts and all.

If I were a betting man, he’s got a future in the NBA. Greivis is no defensive slouch, and Coleman was simply unstoppable– for a half.
Izzo and crew worry me, but Kansas?. Go Terps!
