It’s crazy how different things were in 1991; the Redskins were awesome, Zubaz was en vogue and it was acceptable to call people “retarded”:

That’s from the 1991 Redskins press guide, and it was sent to us by a friend not named Matt Terl (honestly, it wasn’t Terl), probably because that word is so hot right now. What’s more offensive though, “retarded” or Redskins?
Kidding and linguistic sensitivities aside, that’s a terrific cause, and I applaud Stan Humphries for it. Two decades and one Super Bowl appearance later, he’s still putting on tournaments.

The question whether “retarded” or “Redskins” is more offensive assumes two things: 1) There is an empirical standard for what is offensive, and 2) We have the right to not be offended.
Since neither is true, I can say, from where I’m standing, neither “retarded” nor “Redskins” is offensive.
