BLOCKBUSTER ALERT: Lastings Traded For Nyjer in Historic Nameswap
By Chris Mottram | June 30, 2009
Perhaps the two most disappointing players during the Nats ‘09 campaign of failure have been shipped outta town. The Nats dealt OF Lastings Milledge and RP Joel Hanrahan to Pittsburgh (aside: whoretown) for OF Nyjer Morgan and RP Sean Burnett today.
Basically, here’s the short overview of the deal: The Nats trade two players with great potential, but have thus far produced shitty results for two players with marginal potential who have thus far produced marginal results. Like I said, blockbuster.
If nothing else, we can stop staying awake at night wondering when Lastings is going to finally become the 20+ HR/.850 OPS player we thought we’d acquired back in ‘07 while simultaneously having nightmares of Hanrahan running from the bullpen to close out a 3-2 lead in the ninth. Yes, you can have nightmares while you’re awake — the Nats are just that horrifying.
