The Skins Signed a 400-Pound Lineman

    By Jamie Mottram | April 29, 2009

mike-williams-fathead.jpgAs DMVed Monday morning, the Skins signed ex-Bills draft bust/mammoth offensive lineman Mike Williams. What we didn’t know at the time is just how mammoth Williams is. Take it away, @TWTSports:

This just in from Redskins Park: Mike Williams is down to 404 pounds. Seriously.

    Down to 404. That’s fantastic. That’s a big man. That’s …

So, yeah, big to the tune of 44 pounds over his listed weight of 360. That’s what happens when you’re out of the league for four years, eating. Nothing a few (and I mean very few, leisurely) wind sprints won’t cure, right?

I hope so, because, after ignoring the glaring need with the few draft picks they did have, the Skins can use all the line help they can get. Considering they’re signing 400-pounders, that kinda goes without saying.

Update: The Times posted their story, revealing that Williams has lost 40-plus pounds since February, meaning he was pushing 450.

Update No. 2: Redskins Blog has pics from today’s headshot photoshoot, including one of Williams (keep in mind that he’s that thick/fat and 6′6″):

The under-reporting of o-lineman weight is a tradition in football. My roommate and I tutored football players when we were at ND and one of our guys reported for his freshman year at a cool 393, while his official weight was reported to be 363 (he is still the biggest dude I have ever seen in real life).

We used to bring the guys suckers to win their love and trust (and it totally worked) but since he could only eat fruit and lean protein to get his weight down, he got clementines instead.

I am eager to learn Julián Tavárez’s position on Mike Williams.
