Nats and O’s Week 2 Winners & Losers

    By Jamie Mottram | April 20, 2009

Because we, unlike the Washington Post, cover both the Nats and O’s, here are your winners & losers from an awful second week that was …

    WINNERS

The Balti-core — Roberts, Jones and Markakis are batting .380, providing hope for the future.

Adam Dunn — Homers in first two games at the Park; sporting a .549 OBP.

Elijah Dukes — Takes over in center for Lastings, homers in first two games at Nats Park and, in a roundabout way, gets good pub for once.

Nick Johnson — Hitting .385, getting on 46 percent of the time. Not hurt.

    Ryan ZimmermanMr. Walk-Off gets paid.

Nats starting pitching – Martis, Lannan, Olsen and Cabrera somehow string together four straight good starts.

    LOSERS

Bob Carpenter and Rob Dibble — Rooting for the home team is okay. Pretending they’re decent is not, nor is leading me to believe every ball hit in the air has a chance. Also not okay? Dibble’s glasses, though I do enjoy his rampant enthusiasm for throwing at opposing batters.

Nats bullpen – Blows first three save opportunities of the season, all in a row; driving Manager Acta insane.

Nats uniforms — Much was made of the “Natinals” jerseys worn by Zimm and Dunn in Friday’s game, but not enough of the patriotic blue clown uniforms worn the night before. At least the former was an accident.

Christian Guzman — Goes Five-for-five in Nats Park opener, pushes batting average to .515, gets hurt.

Lastings Milledge – Goes from batting leadoff and playing center to getting demoted in one week flat.

O’s starting pitching – Jeremy Guthrie spotted a 7-0 lead, gives up eight runs in the loss. Other four guys are named Uehara, Hendrickson, Simon and Eaton; pitch like it.

Melvin Mora – After a nice start, goes on the 15-day DL.

Felix Pie — Hits first HR as an Orioles, goes on five-game hitless streak.

The Post is doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

Why can’t Johnny Hallyday be in charge of announcing all redskins/terps/nats games again?

Really, WFY? I feel like there are about as many O’s fans reading the Post as Nats fans. We know there are reading this site.

They should have stop covering the Orioles in 2005 when Angelo$ kept the Nats on TV and voted against the team coming here. Why reward, bad anti-Washington behavior?

      That should be “off TV”
