Mike Florio Knows a Lot About the Skins

    By Chris Mottram | April 3, 2009

cutlersadmri.jpgMike Florio, who splits time writing various scoops for Pro Football Talk and SportingNews.com, wrote this yesterday about the Redskins “losing” out on Cutler to the Bears:

It wasn’t quite as bad at the 73-0 whooping that the Bears applied to the Redskins in the 1940 NFL title game, but in the contest that currently matters — the pursuit of a franchise quarterback by two franchises that haven’t had one in a long, long time — the only score that matters is Bears 1, Redskins 0.

Just … wow. This is on par with Adam Best. Which is really saying something.

Let’s start with the fact that not one Redskins fan I know — aside from our commenter BagelBoy, who has proven his superior intelligence multiple times — wanted the Skins to trade Campbell + draft pick(s) for Cutler. In fact, the overwhelming joy I felt when we heard the news that the Bears had won the Cutler sweepstakes was something I hadn’t experienced with this team since they made the playoffs two years ago.

Sorry, did I say “won” the Cutler sweepstakes? Cause I meant “got absolutely raped” by Denver. If there is any score to tabulate from all this, it would be Broncos: WIN, Bears: FAIL. But hey, I guess when you’re as desperate for any semblance of a serviceable QB as Chicago was, you tend to make rash decisions. Bears fans seem happy, so good for them.

The Skins, on the other hand, don’t need Cutler because they already have not just a serviceable QB, but a franchise QB, a point Florio doesn’t seem to understand. If he watched Redskins games, he’d probably get that. Or looked at statistics. You mean to tell me Florio can’t bring up Pro Football Reference on his Sprint Samsung Instinct s30 touchscreen with improved web surfing functionality? Or maybe Florio just isn’t familiar with Campbell because he’s never appeared on his “turd watch” or been arrested.

I’m not a “source” embedded deep within a trash heap outside of Redskins Park, so I’m not sure Florio will listen to me, but I assure you, Mike, the Skins were certainly not losers yesterday. If anything, the non-trade was the best offseason move of the Snyder Era. Jason Campbell is our quarterback, and I’ve never been happier to say that.

See, the way it works is, when Danny & Vinny lose, the Redskins win.

      Stupid Sporting News!

Seriously though, thank God they were outspent for once.

So glad we didnt make that move. I think JC will step it up now and have a great season. The O line is healthy and we got Dock back. This will be his 2nd season in the system.

We still have our first rounder which is good.

Plus I dont know if anyone knows, but if Jason Taylor signs with Miami before training camp, we could probably get our 2nd and 5th round pick back due to NFL rules.

The odds just got increased to 60% the Skins draft a QB in the 1st round. Probably trade up (using 2010 1st rounder) to get Sanchez and we are in a worst position then if we had blown our wad on Cutler.

Again, Im glad we didnt play that cost for Cutler.

We defend JC because people like you are so quick to put him and the team down.

Reality is, our o line was banged up last year. Reality is last year was his first year in Zorns system.

He has got one year left, and now he has something to prove.

I’m just happy the trade didn’t happen because it means my Campbell Jersey (my only Skins jersey) is still valid. Otherwise, it would have suffered the same fate as my Sergei Gonchar Capitals jersey.

It is now or never for this team. They are young in years for normal folk, but old for football people. Betts and Portis may be on the decline after this year, the D is already old in the front 7 and the the sad reality that everyone knows is that we have no draft picks that we can groom and season in the next year or 2.
