Jeff George Would Like a Backup QB Job
By Jamie Mottram | March 31, 2009
This is days old and has been plastered across Yahoo!, so half of America — sports fans or not — has seen it, but it’s about one of my favorite players and by a terrific writer, so here we are.
Now, it’s not that Jeff George is a player I like, necessarily, it’s just that he’s interesting. From No. 1 pick to bust to high-priced free agent (twice) to good seasons with three different teams in between, he’s one of the more notable personalities of the past 20 years. And here’s what he said to Y! Sports’ Michael Silver:
“I’ve been trying to figure out how to get back in [to the NFL], and it just amazes me that I’m not on somebody’s roster. I’ve been throwing two or three times a week, and every time I go out there to throw, I can’t believe I’m not a backup somewhere. I know it’s a young man’s game, but you can’t tell me I’m not better than some of the quarterbacks that are out there. I look at teams like Minnesota or Chicago, and I want to scream at the people in charge, ‘What are you thinking?’”
“If I was in Minnesota, I guarantee I’d be wearing a ring right now. I just can’t get over why somebody like [coach] Brad Childress wouldn’t take a look at me and have me as the third guy on their roster. Put me in and I’ll pick up right where I left off in ’99, but this time with Adrian Peterson, so I wouldn’t have to throw it nearly as much.”
“If Tony Romo goes down, who’s better out there to run the Dallas offense than somebody like me – someone who knows how to throw to veteran receivers and get the ball downfield and keep them happy?”
“I can probably chuck it 78 yards, compared to when I was coming out [of college] and could throw it 85.”
Jeff George is 41, hasn’t played since ‘01 … and is totally awesome. I mean, some of this stuff treads into Uncle Rico territory and points beyond.
Never mind that he went 1-6 as a starter during his last gig with the Skins, or that he already looked 41 in that photo (taken eight years ago), or that he’s clearly delusional, this man needs a job. Just not with my team.

At least Uncle Rico had a shot at State; this clownboot couldn’t even take Montgomery County.

HATE. I have a deep loathing for him that even a Colts Super Bowl victory has not vanquished.
As retarded as the Colts’ front office was back then, even they should have known you can’t trust a person with two first names.
