Art Monk Is Up for the Hall of Fame Again

When Art Monk finally got into the NFL’s Hall of Fame, he received “the ovation to end all ovations”, and for good reason. He was Canton’s definitive snub, an icon whose induction was long overdue.
Even longer still, however, is Monk’s College Football Hall of Fame candidacy, and he’s still hanging around on the ballot. His resume (via Wikipedia):
Monk attended and played college football at Syracuse University, where he was a four-year Orangemen letter winner (1976-79). He led the team in receiving in 1977, 1978 and 1979 and still ranks in the top 10 on several school career record lists, including career receptions (sixth), all-time receiving yards (seventh) and receiving yards per game (ninth).
Not bad, but not necessarily HOF-caliber either. Syracuse also wasn’t very good then, going 19-26 during Monk’s time. I don’t know a thing about the College Football Hall of Fame or the credentials of its members, but without a legendary NFL career 81 45 probably wouldn’t be considered.
Regardless, the mere mention of the man and those three little words gets me all riled up. I pull for him still.
