Dunn Finally Gives in, Signs With Nats

    By Chris Mottram | February 11, 2009

dunn_adam.jpgIt was a close call between sitting this season out or signing with the Nationals. Ultimately, Adam Dunn chose the latter, agreeing to a two-year, $20 million deal today. The Nats originally offered a contract to Dunn over a week ago, and after realizing no one else wanted him (or was going to offer him a legit contract), he gave in.

This is good news for us, considering these factors: 1) The Nats hit the second fewest home runs in the NL last season; Dunn is good for about 40 of those (that would be 34% of the total HRs the entire team hit in ‘08); 2) The team failed to sign any other free agents of significance. This is likely because signing with the Nationals means you have to play for, sigh, the Nationals; 3) He is instantly the best hitter in the line-up; 4) If you already bought season tickets, you now have a reason to turn around three-to-four times a game and watch from the Red Loft bar.

So, hooray for Adam Dunn. Hopefully he will finally be a Red-turned-National who doesn’t completely suck.

Or he signed before the 103 other names were leaked to the media.

Normally, I leave my seats around the 5th or 6th inning to hit up a drink or two in the Red Loft Bar. At that point, I have lost all interest in the blow out that is occuring on the field. As you said, at least now I can turn around to bet if he will strikeout or hit a HR.

      How many outfielders now? :)

Gosh, I love the “buy $5 seats and stand at the bar all afternoon” method of watching the Nats.

I guess the question is: Will the Nat’s win the World Series both years he is here or just one?

      Tough call.

That’s why I love the Nats: they take cast-offs of a Reds franchise that has been mired in a decade-long slump.

I hear that Bowden is working on a huge deal to get Ken Griffey Jr.
