    Langway’s ‘Stache Is the ‘85 All-Star MVP

    By Jamie Mottram | January 21, 2009

Since boarding the Caps bandwagon on January 7, the hottest team in the NHL has gone just 3-4, including last night’s loss at Ottawa. This is exactly the type of fail our jinx tag is supposed to protect us from, but the power of my jinx must be so strong that I’ve jinxed the jinx.

To that end, I should probably stop blogging about the Caps, but they’re too good and too fun and Ovechkin is defending his skills competition title this weekend, so it’s a lost cause. Plus, Puck Daddy keeps posting shit like this:

Those are screenshots from the 1985 All-Star intro reel, with the Caps All-Stars from that season — Rod Langway, Gartner, Scott Stevens, and Carpenter — coming in around the 5:20 mark. You’ll want to watch if for nothing else than copious amounts of hockey hair and each player donning a white cowboy hat for some convoluted reason.

Washington finished second in the Wales Conference that season, and, as evidenced here, sent four players to the All-Star Game. This season Washington is once again second in their conference, but only has one All-Star in Sunday’s exhibition. I blame Pittsburgh.
