Heyward-Bey Now Plays on Sundays
By Jamie Mottram | January 8, 2009
Coverage of the big, horrible Maryland news of the day comes later, but here’s a quick Q&A with Maryland sports correspondent Andy Peden on Terps WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, who’s going pro. He may join Shawne Merriman and Vernon Davis as the first-rounders of the Fridge Era thanks to plays like this one, a 96-yard touchdown against Miami back in ‘06:
Mr. I: Where does he go in the draft?
Peden: DHB is a 2nd-or-3rd rounder unless he blows away the combine with a 4.3 40. He’s got a great size-speed combo, but we have to see how he measures up at the combine.
Mr. I: Where does this leave MD’s offensive attack next season?
Peden: I don’t think it will be a big blow to MD next year. At times they forgot about him. I thought he needed to get more touches either through options, reverses or screens.
MD returns [QB Chris] Turner and the backfield along with a few young WR. They lose a lot on the OL, but hopefully they have a little depth especially after all the injuries a couple years ago.
Also reportedly playing on Sundays: Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno. The Skins should stay the hell away from all of them.
Update: Backup QB/athlete Josh Portis is transferring.

Is it just me, or should a receiver who wasn’t even among the best in his conference this year avoid coming out early?
