The ‘83 Fleer Project: Even Sammy Stewart’s Eyebrow Finds This Odd

    By Jamie Mottram | January 6, 2009

sammy-stewart-brow-250.jpgAs I catch up on the Internet (an impossible endeavor), my favorite new thing is Big League Stew’s interview with Scott Mortimer, who’s collecting an autographed version of every 1983 Fleer baseball card. Think about how difficult that is: Nearly 20 of those players are now dead. And think about how crazy it is: ‘83 Fleer is like the ugliest set ever.

In other baseball card news, the great Baseball Card Blog is no more, burning out with a cardboard reenactment of “Casey at the Bat” (highly recommended).

And in other O’s-related news, the rumor du jour is Brian Roberts-to-the-ChiSox-for-Gavin Floyd. Like Camden Chat, I reluctantly approve.

Are the Orioles just trying to unload this guy because he’s good enough bait?

      O’s = Failure.

I like B-Rob, I really do, but his contract expires this year, he’ll gonna command a large sum of money and is on the wrong side of 30. So why not deal him now for Floyd, who would be the No. 2 starter this season and (hopefully) beyond?

I’m not a huge Brian Roberts guy but don’t you think the O’s could get more than Gavin Floyd? I’m also not a big Gavin Floyd fan.

Couldn’t they pawn him off onto the Mets for a good prospect? Omar Minaya isn’t exactly splitting the atom over there.

Trading Brob for some value is probably the wisest move before he bolts but he still is my favorite player. He probably deserves to play for Pennant too. 83 Fleer? I would love to see some 88 Score. Gregg Jeffries was a lock HOF in that set.
