Skins Winners & Losers, Matinee Edition

    By Jamie Mottram | December 28, 2008

When I think of Redskins-49ers I think of Darrell Green blanketing Jerry Rice, Washington clinching the NFC East in San Fran back in ‘99, Steve Spurrier’s sparkling Skins coaching debut in Japan and … Brandon Lloyd.

But here we are, it’s 2008 and neither team is playing for much in Week 17. The Skins need that ninth win to secure consecutive winning seasons; something they haven’t done since ‘92 ‘97. And San Fran needs that win to finish 5-4 under Mike Singletary; providing hope for a better tomorrow.

The online sportsbook favors the Niners by three, even though they’re 3-6 vs. non-NFC West teams. But, hey, the Skins lost to the Rams at home for chrissakes, so maybe the line knows what time it is.

You know the deal: We’ll return later with our own Winners & Losers, but, for now, share your thoughts and emotions right here. It’s therapeutic, really.

When I think of Skins-49ers, I think of Tecmo Bowl.

      I don’t know why, but I do.

I guess no matter what happens in SF, Skins fans will be winners, given the embarrassing performance being put on by the Cowpokes in Philly.

      Speaking of embarrassing…. 0-16

Turns out that, yes, “the line knows what time it is.”

//staying medium, because it doesn’t get more medium than 8-8

LOSERS: The fans, for having to put up with such a horribly-run franchise.

I guess one positive to take away from this game was the spectacular play of the rookie receivers. Devin Thomas had a great in-cut on a dig route once, Fred Davis had great posture on the sidelines, and Redskins Insider is reporting that Malcom Kelly looked to have some serious burst in warm-ups playing catch with Colt Brennan.

      Things are looking up.

I said this last week and will say it again: 8-8 is about what seemed reasonable before the season began. Of course, I thought the Skins would have gotten pounded in the NFC East and swept the West, but oh well.

Stay medium, draft an o-line and d-line with a couple FA signings (within reason), and give Zorn some more time to develop Campbell. Also, kiss Collins goodbye and sign a Zorn-style backup QB just in case.

Our apologies. It’s gotten real busy around these parts. Thanks for caring though.

Another painful loss, at least painful to watch. I wrote a blog post that provides a little perspective, if you’re interested. Here’s the link…
