NFL Players as Soap Actresses For 500
By Chris Mottram | December 17, 2008
As I made clear over on TSB this morning, nothing is more annoying than hearing people bitch about Pro Bowl snubs. It’s totally pointless. This is the Pro Bowl we’re talking about. Who the fuck cares?
However, if anyone should be able to complain, it’s the players themselves who depend on making the Pro Bowl team to boost both their legacy and bank accounts. And if a player is gonna complain, this is how to do it:
“I don’t know if it was because I wasn’t a first-round draft pick, I don’t do some kind of dance when I make a 10-yard tackle, I don’t go out and get arrested. I believe in playing the game the way it’s supposed to be played. You line up each and every week, each and every play and you go out and get the job done. You look at my body of work and I’ve done that for 11 years. But because I’m not going out causing a lot of controversy, holding a private meeting with the coordinator saying this, this and this, causing a lot of strife on my team, I don’t garner a lot of attention.
My career has been Hall of Fame worthy. But some coaches and some players get caught up in the hype readin the newspapers or listening to some national TV game as opposed to watching the game with no sound. It’s some BS. I put myself up against anybody playing the position, anybody.
To have it happen, year after year after year after year, you can’t tell me … an 8-time alternate, c’mon man. That’s a trivia question. I’m the Susan Lucci of the NFL.”
How not to get into Canton: Call yourself Hall of Fame worthy when you are a borderline, at best, Hall of Famer. Don’t get me wrong, I love LFB and what he does for this team, but that was a comment he’ll probably wish he hadn’t said. Other than that though, the rest of it was a Grade A rant with bonus points for openly mocking the Cowboys.

I’m not sure when a good time to whine about your Pro Bowl snubbing is, but it’s not the week after you’ve lost to Cincinnati, thus killing your playoff chances.

Fletcher has been good, but Hall of Fame?
Mike Singletary is in the Hall of Fame. Ray Lewis is going to the Hall of Fame. Not sure if he’s that elite.

“I don’t do some kind of dance when I make a 10-yard tackle”
I would argue that ALL the Redskins defenders do this.

I don’t know what a 10-yard tackle is.

Give the guy a break..he’s got a super bowl ring, he’s an outstanding defender (the best player on the skins).. but everything he said in there was completely true.

I agree with every word. get em london!
StetSportsBlog, is Ray Lewis really that much more “elite” than Fletcher? Fletcher has almost 200 more total career tackles than Lewis and over 100 more solo. Granted Lewis has more sacks, but only by 5 which, given the span of their careers, is a very small margin. And I believe they have the same number of rings…
A 10-yard tackle is when the defender tackles the ball-carrier after the ball-carrier has alreday gained 10 yards.

Ah, I was totally reading that wrong. Thank you.

@ Some Redskins Fan
Amen.
If LFB was more of a showboat or had played in a bigger media market or did a little dance he would be easily a first ballot hall of famer.
It’s funny though. Any casual fan of the NFL knows the pro bowl is a joke and yet, it’s one of few pieces of criteria used to judge careers for HOF-worthiness.
Sucks to be LFB.

London is by far the best player on the 7th best defense in the NFL – one that couldn’t generate ANY pressure on a flag football QB. A fact that only strengthens his case regarding the snubbing.
And Ray Lewis will make the Hall of Fame because he’s the “backbone” of what has been a dominant defense for almost a decade now – even though the last two seasons he just jumps on the pile after the tackle is made. Unfortunately for London’s popularity, he didn’t stab someone at the height career.
