Portis Speaks His Mind About Zorn

    By Chris Mottram | December 9, 2008

portis_zorn.jpgYou surely know all this, but the quick recap of the Portis-Zorn situation: CP was benched for the second half of Sunday night’s game. After the game, Portis claimed to be fine, bro. Yesterday, Zorn said that he took Portis out because he didn’t practice all week, therefore was less prepared for the game than Betts. If that was the case, I don’t understand why Portis would start in the first place. Or start the last few games either, seeing as he hasn’t really been practicing for weeks.

So, clearly, there was trouble brewing beneath the surface between those two. Today, it came to a head on Portis’ weekly radio spot on The John Thompson Show. Via Steinz:

Clinton Portis unloaded on Jim Zorn during today’s John Thompson Show appearance, over and over again. He swore, he suggested maybe he should go on the injured reserve, he offered to become a cheerleader, and he said this, when asked what adjustments should be made.

“We got a genius for a head coach, I don’t know, I’m sure he on top of things. He’s got everything figured out. Hey, that’s up to him. All I can do is when he calls a play is go out and try to execute to the best of my ability.” …

What I need to be around for is Sundays and that’s what I try to be around for. So I mean, if you’ve got a problem with me not practicing and can’t do it that way, maybe you feel like you need to sever ties, split ties with me? Split ties with me. But don’t sit here and throw me out like I don’t pay attention, like I don’t know what’s going on, like I’m making mistakes, I’m the problem. You know, so, it is what it is, bro.”

There is much more over at the Bog. Also, Jim Zorn is on The Sports Reporters right now, and downplayed the situation, although he certainly doesn’t know everything Portis said.

This is not “How the Skins Make the Playoffs”. Or maybe it is. Who knows. All that’s for sure is that any time Clinton is on the John Thompson Show it’s required listening, which is the only time that can be said for the John Thompson Show.

Practice? Practice? We talkin bout’ practice?

I guess Portis is angry he cant come in and out of games as he pleases anymore. One time on the bench because hes missing protections and not running routes as clean as he should (according to Zorn) and he spouts off like this?

Speaking of speaking your mind, anyone catch Colin Cowherd this morning ranting about not being heard in DC on Mondays and Fridays? He was basicly pissed he is bumped for Monday Morning Qb show and whatever TEM does on Fridays. The rant included a statement along the lines of the Redskins are a terrible organization in every facet and that Baltimore does everything better than the Skins. He then ended it with “And thats not affirmation, thats information.” Nice. I think he thought of that one last night. Even though hes right, I hate that tool.

Great and now the Skins are all over the news for something that doesn’t include winning. Zorn needs to step up, be a coach and talk to CP straight. Portis needs to keep this shit in house and stop being a diva (or whatever the male equivalent is). Looking like the Cowboys is not a good thing.

I feel this has probably been stewing on Portis’ part all year. He’s been having plenty of great games and thats largely in part to the above average play of the offensive line. When that breaks down hes still a very good back, but its easy to get frustrated.

Especially when defenses have figured out how to get beyond Zorn’s very simple offensive schemes. All it takes is a blitz. Then the o-line shows how old it really is. Baltimore game was the perfect example.

When push comes to shove, I’d take Portis any day over Zorn. Put Portis on the field. Its that simple.

This just fuels my theory that Snyder is going to push again for Cowher and, if he gets him this time, push Zorn to offensive coordinator and give Cowher head coach.

Not to sound like a broken record, but whatever happens with Portis, Zorn, etc. doesn’t mean shit unless they find some offensive linemen in the offseason.

Portis spouting off makes no sense at all, that kind of talk should should come from wide receivers.

LBF-Yeah I agree on the Cowher move, Zorn is a placeholder.
