JMU Is Ranked Higher Than West Virginia

    By Jamie Mottram | November 18, 2008

brock-landers.jpgThis was ridiculous to begin with, and is even more so the week after. JMU was Sagarin’s 41st-best team in the country, higher than Notre Dame and others of that ilk, and, after beating William & Mary, is up to 33. James Madison. The 33rd-best team in America.

I said it was ridiculous, and some call it “pot-clanging insane”, but no I-AA team has finished this high in at least a decade (JMU at No. 36 in ‘04 is the highest on record). So, like we did last week and will continue to do until the Dukes lose and watch their illogical rating drop, we offer a sampling of teams ranked lower than JMU by Jeff Sagarin:

Again, these are bowl-bound teams from big conferences. Pot-clanging insane indeed. And who knows, maybe if JMU hadn’t lost at Duke back in August Sagarin would have them in the rarefied air of Utah and Boise State, “mid-major” unbeatens knocking on the door of the BCS.

Of course that can’t happen, because Madison is an FCS school. But for how long? With an expanding stadium, a No. 1 ranking and recent championship under their belt … well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. They’ve got Towson on Saturday, and perhaps a top-30 ranking thereafter. Small steps.

The pollsters must be in love with the Dukes propensity to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat or overtime in 2008.

Man, I am going to kick back, eat some Mr. J’s, and wait for this mess to sort itself out.

What, no love for JMU’s women’s soccer team, who just upset Wake Forest to advance to the Sweet Sixteen? For shame.

I have much more love for the JMU womens soccer team, and field hockey team, and volleyball team then I ever did for the football team.

Least favorite part about living in Eagle Hall freshman year, the MRD’s warmed up there before the games on Saturday morning.

Most favorite part about living in Eagle Hall freshman year. The fine ladies like Mrs. Irrelevant. All 5 floors of them.

It’s sad that Freshman year was 1998. Back in the Alex Wood days.

33, that’s how many Stephen Curry scored last night, right?
