    Redskins-Cowboys II Winners & Losers

    By Jamie Mottram | November 17, 2008

Handing out labels following Skins games. Tonight: a 14-10 loss to Dallas.

    deangelo-int.jpg

WINNERS: DeAngelo Hall – Picked off a 3rd-and-3 pass in Washington territory in his first game as a Redskin. It was a terrible throw, and I wish it wasn’t, because LaRon Landry would’ve ended TO’s career otherwise.

Clinton Portis — Was 50/50 all week, then came out out on the opening drive and ran it right down the field, going over 1,000 yards on the season.

Chris Cooley – Ninth-straight game with four catches or more.

Mike Sellers – Fan favorite and team leader tasted paydirt for once.

Carlos Rogers – Whacked TO on a slant, causing a deflection-turned-INT.

    Rocky McIntosh – Caught Rogers’ deflection-turned-INT one-handed.

Skins fans – Caused a false start, and the Dallas offense played out the down because they couldn’t hear the whistle(s).

romo-pinky.jpgLOSERS: Tony Romo – Pinky pinky pinky, douchehat, pinky pinky pinky.

My local networks – For not broadcasting in HD. Fuckers.

NBC – For pumping us up with Faith Hill. “The NFL rocks on NBC,” indeed.

Punt coverage – Somehow managed to turn a dead ball at the 1 into a touchback. Of course, the touchback turned into a touchdown.

The Dirtbags – Couldn’t pass or run block for most of the game.

Shaun Suisham – Came up short on a 46-yarder. That’s not good.

Santana Moss – Came in averaging 106.7 yards/game vs. Dallas, but dropped a deep ball near Dallas’ goal line that was right on his hands.

MEDIUM: Jason Campbell – Didn’t have much time to throw and got picked off in Dallas territory on a 3rd-and-2, but also ran for 22 on a 3rd-and-8, which ended with Cowboys safety Pat Watkins on his ass:

Jim Zorn – Went for it on 4th-and-1 at the 11 on the opening drive. Got the first down, then the TD. Went for it on 4th-and-4 in the 4th. Not so much.

Devin Thomas – Caught a first down! Dropped a would-be first in the 4th.

Fred Smoot — Made a nice stick on Marion Barber and upended TO early, but whiffed on a Roy E. Williams screen.

Rock Cartwright – F’ed up on downing the aforementioned punt, broke the ensuing kickoff 58 yards and then fumbled a later kickoff out-of-bounds.

Chris Horton — Madden called him a Polamalu “kinda guy” after a stop on a TO double-reverse, and Michaels called him a “great-looking rookie” after tackling Tashard Choice, but he got burnt on Martellus Bennett’s TD.

Madden and Michaels – Didn’t mention Shawn Springs’ absence until the 2nd quarter, though Michaels did describe Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder as “a couple of nervous cats.”

The Day the Earth Stood Still – Don Draper! Coach Taylor! Keanu?

That game had Norv overtones to it in the 2nd half…came out guns blazing with the TD to sellers, then NOTHING after that, nothing. People can blame JC all they want for these kinds of losses, but our offensive line is proving again and again that they’re old, injury prone, and can’t get it together down the stretch. Run defense turned to crap in the 4th quarter. And Rock was killing me with the 2 big mistakes he made on teams.

Forgive me, I could have sworn this has also been the past 4 seasons.

      Losers: The officials

Fucked up our punt at the one (Rock was clearly down). Then the Barber review. Then missed a blatant Cowboy offside on our 3rd down in the 3rd quarter.

      Winner: John Madden

“Only Greg Triplett could make that call.”

      Bitch: Shaun Alexander

The total absence of a pass rush and what looks, to me, like an unimaginative offense is killing us.

I guess you can give Hall some credit for his INT, even though he was beaten on the play, muscled off his spot by the receiver and caught a poorly thrown ball that him in the chest, he at least caught the ball, looking your way Carlos Rodgers.

With the exception of the Lions game, this offense has really sputtered the last five games. We had a stretch in the first few weeks when I felt confident about Zorn’s system, but now I don’t even feel like this is a Wild Card team.

Sure, the D couldn’t make a big stop in that final drive, but overall, they played well, as usual. It’s this offense that is just killing us right now. They’ve shown the last two games what they’re capable of against playoff-caliber teams. That being 16 total points … at home.

Our defense continues to play well but the effort is getting wasted. I’d like to see more pass rush but i’m not going to complain when we only give up 14 points. Plus we got two turnovers.

The offense is an issue. Vinny and Co though by drafting 3 WR/TE it would fix the passing game. He forgot to address the O-line. Campbell has no time especially on 3rd downs. Devin Thomas is an idiot.

Can’t blame Rock on not downing the ball on the 1. He did come back with a huge kick return. The fumble out of bounds was awful.

Seemed like all the marginal/questionable calls went the wrong way. The offsides that wasn’t called was brutal.

Where’s the offensive creativity? Granted, there was that Randle El reverse where it looked like he might pass and instead did a Brunell impression (threw it out of bounds).

Not ready to throw Zorn under the bus, as in the end the players have to get it done, but this looks like another loss due to inexperienced coaching. And another year of low to moderate success in spite of our offense.

Jason La Canfora might be a rumor monger, but he has a point about running the Wildcat with ARE. We’ve got the personnel for it and the variety of screens and play action passes we could add to our attack would help open lanes for whoever is running the ball for us.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Clinton Portis is clearly not a leader. I mean, he didn’t practice ALL WEEK!!! Who the fuck does he think he is? If only he would step up into the role of team leader . . . .

Not a single team in the NFL will win without a good o-line, and the Skins’ wasn’t good last night. You can’t pass deep, you can’t go play action because you can’t run. Jansen clearly needs help on his side.

I’m getting more concerned with the coaching staff’s ability to adjust on the run. Too often the Skins get that first TD and then bog down the rest of the game.

9-7 ain’t getting into the playoffs this year, I don’t think.

Im with OMG. Portis seems to be showing his colors as a game player.

No QB can win on his ass all night. Ask Colt. hahaha
