Nats New Unis Are Old School, Patriotic
By Chris Mottram | November 6, 2008
The Nationals had a super awesome jersey release party at the ESPN Zone in D.C. today. It went down at Noon … on a Thursday … and featured such superstars as Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes … and such shitty, overpriced food as the Zone Cheese Steak and Cajun Burger. God, that place fucking blows. I’m sure it was a real rager. We’re so sorry we couldn’t make it.
But back to the point: The new jerseys. Here they are in all their glory:

My thoughts from left to right: Aight, ugh, eh. I dig the old school feel of the far left road uni, but if we’re gonna throw it back, just go with a real deal Homestead Grays joint. That “God Bless America” bullshit in the middle is obnoxious, especially paired with its stars and stripes fitted, and the one on the right is just alright for me, dawg. I prefer the “DC” logo on the chest instead of the curly W — shit’s weak looking, with its round, Nerfy edges.
Anywho, your thoughts? Based on the typical response to our Nats posts, there should be at least two of you who care about this enough to comment.

Pretty much agree on all counts. I really like the left road uniform as it means that the curly W is finally incorporated into the uniform. The one on the right is pretty good too. The middle one is just over the top. I could see them wearing it on July 4th, but not at any other time.
And hey, since the word “Nationals” isn’t anywhere to be seen on any of the uniforms, maybe they’ve already changed their name to the Grays.

While I hate to point out more how Bowden is obsessed with the Reds…The alt on the right is the Reds Jersey with a “W” instead of a “C”

The most interesting part of the powerpoint slide show on their website is the model actually looks like an athlete.

Does that mean no more fatties like Guzman, Belliard, Estrada & Young? Or are they just fucking with me along the lines of Bowden saying they are going to spend some money this offseason. Actually, Bowden was speaking the truth. They will get Adam Dunn and his 180 strikeouts for something like $15M. Fuck.

Wait, they’re not really gonna wear the Stars & Bars one, are they?
Also, I’ll admit it: I kinda like the ESPN Zone in Baltimore.

1. The B-More ESPN Zone is okay, still pales in comparison to Arundel Mills Dave and Busters, and that ain’t saying much.
2. I apologize CM, but all I can see is burgundy on burgundy.

Really dig the road jersey for the reasons CMott and MaxW already mentioned. They need to get their act together and have the home uni fall in line.
I loathe alt jerseys in all my sports, but as alt jerseys go, the red with the ‘W’ is one of the less offensive I’ve seen.
The Stars & Stripes uni is ‘meh’, but only for July 4th and other military tribute games I read.

First off: fuck ESPN Zone. Fuck ESPN in general. I don’t give two shits about what THEY think I should care about. If I have to hear one more “human interest” piece about some kid who everybody though was too short to play basketball and then finally got a chance to play and made a layup, I’m gonna scream.
yeesh, sorry.
Anyway…
- Grey unis are a huge improvement and now look classic
- I really like the solid red ones. i’m assuming they’ll take the place of the same ones with the “DC” on the lapel
- patriotic ones look dumb but i assume they’ll only be worn on days like memorial day, 4th of july, labor day
- why can’t they change the home unis to the cursive lettering as well? They look like all star jerseys which is too ironic for its own good.

-Aesthetically, my favorite is the Gray “Washington” jersey. I like the old school vibe of it. However, it feels very derivative of the new “Baltimore” jerseys that the O’s are rolling out this year.
-the stars and stripes thing is lame
-the curly W jersey looks like a knock off being sold on half street.
PS- I thought Arundel Mills had a Jillians?
I still don’t understand why we don’t have the Senators throwbacks (or some non trademark infringing looking Senators-esque jerseys) as our alternates.
The normal home and away jerseys were not bad last year. I’m glad they ditched the shiny golden embroidery though that looked tacky.

BTW putting PS in the middle of your post makes you look intelligent

We can’t do Senators throwbacks because we’re not the Senators. Those teams are the Twins and Rangers. We are the former Expos. Now THAT would be a sweet throwback.

I’m down for Expos throwbacks actually.
But there is a long history of teams using the throwbacks of other regional teams that they are not. Just look at the Jets when they rock Titans uniforms or the Browns when they rock…well Browns uniforms.

SHAMELESS LERNER CASH GRAB ALERT SHAMELESS LERNER CASH GRAB ALERT. I mean, who do the Nats think they are the 1998-2007 Tampa Bay Devil Rays, they of a different uniform combo for each of their annual 65 wins? Wait, don’t answer that.
