Maryland Madness Means Choreographed Dancing, Fake Tanks, Faux Excitement
By Jamie Mottram | October 20, 2008
I wasn’t in College Park or watching this on TV Friday night, so perhaps someone who was can fill me in on what’s happening here:
What we know is that that’s the Maryland men’s basketball team doing a choreographed routine to a bunch of songs the kids are listening to these days. Except for the “Macarena.” I’m familiar with that one. Unfortunately.
Other highlights from the night that was:
- Gary riding in on a 17,000-pound Under Armour tank thing.
- Dino Gregory’s dunk line attempt getting rejected by the rim.
- Sean Mosley looking pretty good, bringing a shred of hope.
For more, Terrapins Insider has tidbits, Testudo Times has thoughts and the Baltimore Sun and Maryland’s site have pics and more pics.

I don’t think the ACC writers have come out with their preseason picks yet, but when they do, I guarantee MD is no higher than 10th. This year is going to be interesting to me b/c MD has a lot of guards and I think Gary is going to turn up the pressure with a lot of pressing. They will be running mostly 3 guard sets and even some 4 guard sets with Milbourne playing the 4.

No chance they finish dead last. While there is a big hole in middle that will have to filled by Dupree, Burney, Gregory and Goins, they will rotate 6 guards that can all play. Vasquez, Hayes and Milbourne will start with Tucker, Bowie and Mosley coming off the bench. They have the athletes to run with anyone in the ACC. If the big guys can hold their own and Vasquez cuts down on turnovers, they will finish between 5-7 in the ACC.
