The Brooks Nightmare May Be Over
By Chris Mottram | October 13, 2008

Our prayers may have been answered. According to a source (see: Unsilent Majority, who heard it a few minutes ago on Sports Talk 980), Cerrato has said that Brooks is no longer the starting punter, but they have not cut him … yet. As of right now, there’s also no replacement for Brooks — I’d assume they’ll be trying guys out tomorrow. This really speaks to how horrible Brooks has been: The guy just lost his job to someone who doesn’t even exist yet.
Zorn’s post-game comments yesterday hinted that this change may have been in the works:
“We have to improve our punting or we’re gonna be in trouble every game. Either we bring someone in to compete or we get our punter, who’s a young guy, to improve.”
More to come on this BREAKING NEWS!!!!, but for now, if you think you can kick a ball further than 30 yards, you may wanna lace ‘em up and head out to Ashburn.
UPDATE: Just so you know we aren’t making this up, Insider confirms it.
UPDATE 2: Terl at the Skins Blog says the team is expected to reach an “injury settlement” with Brooks, which I assume would mean putting him on IR so they don’t have to cut him. I also assume you need to have an actual injury to be on IR. So basically, I’m confused.
UPDATE 3: It’s been confirmed that the Skins will try out at least two punters tomorrow, neither of which I’ve heard of, and could possible add Scott Player, whose name sounds familiar, to the mix.

I’d commit several unholy acts to attain the services of Mike Scifres.

To quote Chris Chase, “Of course nobody has been brought in yet. Cerrato is on the radio!”
I was gonna say they should bring back some long-lost Skins punter, but they’ve never really had a good one, except for Matt Turk, and he’s still working. Oh, and Reggie Roby, who’s actually dead.

Jamie’s Durant Brooks rant = Epic Fail.

Hip Hip Hooray! Feel bad for the kid but put him on the back burner and let him learn.

It was an epic fail, Stet, and I owned up to it in yesterday’s Winners & Losers post, but Brooks’ failure is inexplicable. How does a kid go from averaging 45.3 yards/punt in college to 39.6 in the NFL? I blame Danny Smith.

The Skins can have Frost back because he is simply a terrible punter for the Pack.
October 13th, 2008 at 11:32 AM
Just to back up my point about Frost. Here is a snippet from a Packers blog. http://packergeeks.wordpress.com/
Seriously, how can Derrick Frost have a job? He averaged 36.5 yards a punt, but that number was 31.0 before his last kick. And that kick, although it went for 46 yards, was actually kicked a little more than thirty but it was a line drive and Frost got a very lucky bounce.
He is awful. I’m not writing anything more about him — I’ll just keep posting that sentence: Seriously, how can Derrick Frost have a job? But it should be said that every game he is a Packer my opinion of Ted Thompson diminishes.

Just heard the Romo has a broken finger and may be out up to 4 weeks.
Good news on a rough day

Every time I read the name “Matt Turk” my insides start burning.

I hope they find a way to keep Brooks and coach him out of whatever it is that’s screwing up his kicking.
I a bit concerned though, who the hell is gonna come in off the street and do better?

I don’t know if this is good or bad, but I know Bryan Barker and he ain’t doing anything.
October 13th, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Bryan Barker was Derrick Frost before Derrick Frost!

While we’re on this thread, can the Skins get Mike Nelms back to return punts? ARE is killing me.

Anyone for some Todd Sauerbrun? Seems like he would be right up Danny Boy’s alley.

This picture is a perfect example of the respect punters get.

I wonder what Sean Landeta is up to, besides signing up for AARP benefits.
