God Damn You, John McCain
By Chris Mottram | September 4, 2008
My hatred for John McCain this morning stems not from that fact that the thought of him as Commander in Chief absolutely terrifies me, but from this little tidbit, via PFT:
The game typically begins at 8:30 p.m. EDT, but likely will be moved to 7:00 p.m. EDT to avoid a conflict with the final night of the Republican National Convention, which will feature the formal nomination acceptance speech from Senator John McCain.
Yes, this is old news from March. But in March I was more concerned with Maryland sucking than the kick-off time for the Skins season opener. How in the hell am I supposed to go to the store, figure out what meats to grill, grill said meats and drink enough beers to get in the proper mind-set all before 7PM?
Although, I suppose the positive way to look at this is that at least I’ll be able to watch Roddick’s match after the game. Yeah, I’m a tennis fan. Wanna fight about it?
(PS. Can we please not let the comments devolve into some sort of political bitch-fest, and instead focus on how freakin’ awesome it is that football starts tonight? That’s something we can all agree on.)

My opinion on Senator McCain’s speech will be largely formulated by whether the Redskins win or lose.

It could be worse — it could start at 4 PM…

I think even the Republican Skins fans would prefer to watch lawn bowling instead of a McCain speech.

I now have 2 reasons to vote for Obama.
1 - He didnt make me come into work early to get home in time to prepare for the season opener. The SEASON OPENER, McCAIN!!!
2 - His voice sounds like The Rock.
“Can you smelllll what Barack is cookin”

This can’t come a moment too soon. The can lose by 30, as long as I don’t see Sarah Palin’s face, I’m great.

Daniel Snyder is an avid contributor to the McCain campaign.
End of demo.

John McCain doesn’t care about football fans

4pm start, this is why I love living on the west coast
**Also, when they are on TV and I get stuck having to watch either the 49ers or Raiders…that is why I hate living on the West Coast**

I’m Reagan conservative, but I’m a Skins fan first, and I won’t be watching McCain’s speech if the game runs over. There are priorities, then there are priorities.
Hey Mayor will you be holding a McCain fundraiser at any of the pre-election tailgates?
September 4th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I wont be watching the speech either if it runs over, and the DTC Captains have very different political views.
The President is on the Obama bandwagon, while the Mayor has a front seat on the Straight Talk Express.
No politicking on the lot, unless its for an election for Mayor of FedEx Field.

1. I’m glad the game starts at 7:00 instead of 8:30 - What, do you really want to listen to John Madden & Al Michaels talk about Brett Favre’s love of the game for 90 minutes? (on top of the time they’re sure to devote to the gunslinger during & instead of the game)
2. I realize this can only provoke a response of, “if you don’t like it, read something else” but can you guys back off the political agenda? I don’t think there’s a person reading your sports blog who has any interest in your political opinion-whichever way it slants.
3. Here’s where I think it gets interesting: what happens if the game goes to overtime? Does NBC switch to the speech & snub football fans? Do they stick with football & snub republicans? Would McCain be willing to delay his speech until the game ends?
4. Go Skins!

Oh yeah, we’re really pushing our “agenda” with the two political mentions we’ve made this year.

I mean Chris, seriously? How about just not posting about politics?
Mayor I’m with you on the Straight Talk Express.

When did all of our readers lose a fucking sense of humor? The joke here was that I was saying “god damn you, John McCain” for forcing the game to start early. I mean, fucking Christ, people. I wasn’t attempting to discuss politics. I was attempting to discuss the start of the Redskins game.
I really … honestly … do not give a shit who you’re voting for.

Its all good Chris. I don’t think anyone is mad at you.
Plus we all know that was you with the Hussein Obama 08 jersey!

Seriously, people, this is a DC blog, you should be happy there aren’t more political asides on here. Don’t waste time whining about stupid shit when you should be getting excited for the opener.

FWIW
Joe Gibbs was part of the warm up act for John McCain tonight. Admittedly the way the game was going that might have been more exciting to watch.
