    Redskins-Jaguars Winners & Losers

    By Jamie Mottram | August 29, 2008

zorn-spin.jpgLoser: Jim Zorn — He went ahead and played the starters, only to see them commit turnovers and go 3-and-out. So much for tempo. At least no one got hurt. Physically.

Loser: The punting game — Regardless of w’happened in this, the last game of the open competition, the job should be Durant Brooks’. Of course, Derrick Frost held on kicks and out-booted him by 7 yards per punt. Yay, mediocrity. (UPDATE: Hallelujah!)

Loser: The fans — Never is it more absurd than the final preseason game that season-ticket holders must pay big money for preseason tickets. Attendance neared 60,000, and those who actually attended got to watch scrubs through the rain in a blowout that meant nothing. I’d rather watch Scrubs. And I don’t even like Scrubs.

In the end, anyone putting stock into this outcome is mistaken, and, with the DNC, South Carolina-NC State and Nats-Dodgers on at the same time, I could barely watch. Next Thursday night, however, will be a different story. Across the board, one would hope.

Devin Thomas, Loser. Has he done anything — one single thing — of (positive) note this preseason?

Yeah. Thomas is bunk league. I will take no injuries though.

Losers - the fans. Anyone wanting to keep their tailgating buzz going now has to pay $8 for a beer. Really Danny boy? $7 wasn’t enough for ya?

I think labeling Zorn as a loser is wrong. I thought he made the right decision in playing the starters to try to get some momentum after last week’s debacle. It just didn’t work when they all played like crap again.

I agree with the Thomas sentiment - it’s sad when Billy McMullen has thoroughly outplayed you for a month.
