We had no idea Christian Guzman was capable of hitting a baseball 350 feet. Apparently, neither did Tim Redding, who wasn’t paying much attention while lingering around centerfield during batting practice yesterday:
Pitcher Tim Redding was smoked by a line drive off the bat from teammate Cristian Guzman. Redding was in center field, approximately 350 feet away, when the ball hit him flush and dropped him. Redding went down and was quickly attended to by a trainer. He limped off under his own power, favoring his right leg. He avoided another line drive near the third base line as he returned slowly to the dugout.
Redding is listed as day-to-day with a “right quadriceps contusion,” which the pitcher says is just fine and has already started to “bruise out.”
On a related note, the Nats won both games of their day-nighter against the Rockies yesterday. I didn’t see either of the games, but based on the way Chico Harlan describes them, it got quite sexy out there:
“On Thursday, both ways worked. Pounding worked; poking worked.”
Michael Scott, your thoughts?
