    Sherrill Cements Meathook All-Star Status

    By Jamie Mottram | July 11, 2008

sherrill-meathook.jpgClosers generally have an ERA under 3.00, and good ones are well below that. George Sherrill, after last night’s blown save in Toronto (his sixth of the season), is headed to the All-Star Game at 4.12.

What an embarrassment. Not so much to baseball or to the Sherrills, but to Baltimore.  They’re not a bad team either — hanging around .500 throughout the first half of this season. They even have three sluggers with killer VORPs, man, and a starting pitcher with a sub-3.50 ERA. But, against the better judgment of me and you, as well as the Yahoo! Sports MLB writers, Sherrill it is.

I hope you’re happy, Tito Francona. The only way this ends well is if you put Sherrill in to close it out and flip your damn brim in kind. Of course, you’d never do that, because he might blow it, along with your chances at home-field advantage in the World Series. All the more reason why Brian Roberts should be in this damn game.

More like an embarrassment to da Meathook to lump Sherrill in with him.

Sherill is like second in the A.L. in saves, however.

With that being said, Nick Markakis deserved more of an all-star look than Roberts.

WFY, no disrespect to Dmitri intended. The Meathook All-Stars were named after him with love, as an acknowledgment of him being a token All-Star rep for not one but two teams (WAS and DET).

StetSportsBlog, Markickass is awesome, but his season doesn’t stack up to his AL OF counterparts the way B-Rob’s does to other AL 2B.

Actually, check that: Markakis’ season, at least offensively, is on par with Carlos Quentin’s. So maybe you’re right about that.

I think Roberts should be going over everyone else on the Os. He sets the tone for the offense, hustles and plays above average D.

What an embarrassment this article was! George Sherrill made you eat your words with an outstanding clutch performance at the All-Star game!
