Mr. Irrelevant Wishes to Embarrass Us

    By Chris Mottram | May 20, 2008

This is Ryan Hoag, who was an actual Mr. Irrelevant back in the 2003 draft. Hoag has been in and out of the league ever since — probably because he doesn’t love Jesus enough — and most recently, he landed on The Bachelorette. Here he is on the show’s first episode last night:

It must be mentioned that Jamie watches this show. Not because he’s gay, but because he’s married to a woman. As far as I can gather, all women absolutely love six programs: Anything involving dancing (Stars, So You Think, whatever), Gray’s Anatomy, Oprah, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and, of course, Sex and the City. Forget everything else, just the differences in television viewing is enough to ensure that I will never, ever understand women. (Well that, and their affinity for vegetables. They actually enjoy them, even if they aren’t covered in cheese.)

And speaking of Oprah, watch this. My lady friend showed it to me on Sunday … on her DVR, which only further proves my previous point.

So it’s known, this Ryan Hoag fellow isn’t even on the short list of most awkward dudes from last night’s Bachelorette.

On behalf of men everywhere who aren’t regular, required watchers of the Bachelor,

      What Da Heezy?

And now, back to Desperate Housewives.

I always forget that Desperate Housewives and Gray’s Anatomy are two different shows. I guess that makes seven required shows for all women.

“We” watch Bachelor, Bachelorette, Gray’s, Debbies, Oprah and (used to watch) Sex and the City. So, yeah, six for seven. Send help.

There’s also the MTV angle for younger women, which includes The Hillz and (sometimes) the Real World.

Now who’s excited to see Carrie on big screen in ten days!

Shit, The Hills. Yeah, add that to the list.

My list is so simple: Sports, The Office, Lost, whatever is on Bravo. Just like any real man.

Oh yeah, The Hills. Seven for eight.

It should be noted that R is neither in a relationship nor a female, and still watches The Hills and Real World all the time.

How this fits into the theory, I’m not sure, but I think you mentioned something about “gay.”

My lady friend absolutely loves The Office and Arrested Development (owns all the DVDs,) yet Sex in the City as well, but not of the other aforementioned shows above.

I’ve never understood this, but apparently, I should consider myself very lucky.

Not all women. I have an especially visceral reaction to SATC and Grey’s Anatomy. I’ll admit to watching Gossip Girl, but the other programs I watch religiously are The Boondocks, The Tudors, Bones, and sports.
