Eric Young Is the Emmitt Smith of MLB

    By Jamie Mottram | May 13, 2008

This morning I flipped on SportsCenter and caught some baseball highlights, particularly Cliff Lee’s nine-inning, no-run performance that lowered his ERA to 0.67 after seven starts. ESPN’s Eric Young was impressed:

That’s right, according to the silver-tongued EY, Cliff Lee’s success gives Cleveland five “formidle” starters: C.C. Sabathia is one, Fausto Carmona is two and Lee is so “formidle” that he counts as three, four and five.

(If you don’t get the headline, then you weren’t watching Emmitt on ESPN last fall. Catch up in 90 seconds.)

He sucks more than John Riggins’ off that sizzurp on the radio.

That’s the thing that really puzzles me about Eric Young: He’s not a big-name guy. With dudes like Riggins and Emmitt, at least people know who those guys are. But Eric Young? He must be tight with someone at the Worldwide Leader to get that job.

Neither is Orestes Destrade, and his .241 career BA. And he sucks on TV, too.

Although, while playing for the Seibu Lions, he did lead the Japanese Pacific League in HRs for three consecutive years. So maybe that’s it.
