Wiz-Cavs III: Caron Decides to Rise Up
By Jamie Mottram | May 1, 2008
He’s loved to bits, but it’s good that Gil shut it down. If not for his own health, then so Caron can be the alpha male he really is.
At least two stats support this claim: 1) Washington went 33-25 this season with Butler (a 47-win pace), and 10-14 without (a 34-win pace). 2) In the first four games of Wiz-Cavs III, while deferring to Gil, Caron averaged 16 and 4 as the Wiz went 1-3. In the fifth game, with Arenas looking on, he went off for 32, 9 and one helluva game-winner.

It was a beauty of a game, filled with tension from Songaila’s “punch” (please) to LeBron’s missed buzzer-beater, and it ended with Caron shouting “D.C., stand up!” before entering the locker room to chants of “Tough Juice!” Of course, you have to wonder if it was also the end of Gilbert the Wizard, and even Gilbert the blogger. But we’ll handle that heartache later.
For now, rejoice in this endlessly entertaining series returning to the District, where the true five — AD, DeShawn, Caron, Antawn and Haywood — do battle once again with LeBron, the zebras in his pocket and the past that haunts them. Win or lose, the mania continues.
Bonus: FanHouse has a video recap of Caron’s career night.

The Wizards — most specifically Caron — desperately needed Gil to do this after the first game. Maybe it’s not too late.

Three playoff runs already this year–the Redskins winning out to get a wild-card, and the Caps nearly winning out and then playing a tremendous seven-game series.
And yet, to me at least, this is more entertaining than either of those by a power of at least 10. I can’t understand why anyone would say this is bad for the NBA. I think it’s amazing.

The pressure is back on King James. I am happy that it took 5 games for Caron to realize a white guy named Wally is guarding him.

Sigh. Still playing the zebra card? (And MacG, hopefully that won’t happen ever again…)

It’s hard not to when he’s getting to the line a Dwayne Wade-in-the-’06 Finals-esque 13 times/game.

The only difference here is that he’s actually getting fouled. It’s the WAS gameplan…right?
