Skins’ Pick Kills Ocho Cinco Rumor Dead
By Jamie Mottram | April 26, 2008
As a Redskins fan, you’ve got to be happy about at least three things: 1) Cincy rejected Washington’s generous offer for Chad Johnson. 2) The Skins turned their full slate of picks into an even better slate of picks. 3) Their first selection at No. 34 overall is Michigan State wide receiver Devin Thomas, who Mel Kiper has as the top WR in the draft. Can’t bust any of that.
Here to celebrate, Devin the Dude’s greatest hits set to some Kanye:
And two more second-rounders to go! (Update: Skins take USC tight end Fred Davis at No. 48. Odd considering the needs on defense and O-line.) (Update No. 2: Skins take Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly at No. 51. Very odd.)

More relatedness: Great column and lede from Thomas Boswell:
Everybody’s always wondered what would happen if you put Daniel Snyder and Vinny Cerrato in a room without any adult supervision. Now we know.
Also, from the same column, this quote is a gem:
“I’m very excited,” said Zorn, who volunteered that he’d never been in an NFL draft room before.”
Update: They just drafted Colt fucking Brennan in the 6th round, yet still haven’t picked a defensive lineman. I quit.

Who is this team and what have they done with the people in charge of football ops. Everything that they have done player wise this offseason is a complete 180 from years past. I was hoping that they got the Phillips kid from Miami, but that is ok.
Also, this Fred Davis kid is tight. I’m not a USC fan but being in NorCal we see all the games for USC. The dude has skills.

Sorry, Maj. How’d that CoverItLive blog work out for you?

Man, I wanted a DE so bad.

so i guess anthony mix isn’t gonna pan out.
i’d rather have three young skill players (thomas, kelly, and davis) than a 30 yr old chad johnson and the associated cap hit.
be interesting to compare the contracts signed by any of these 2nd rounders vs. dj hackett, who we only offered veteran minimum.
i wonder how blache & bugel felt about merling, campbell, & groves.
so now we take mario manningham if he’s available?

woo hoo!! a lineman!!! snyder & cerrato must be sleeping in today.

A guard in the 3rd and Danny & Vinny turn a 4th-rounder into a 4th plus a 5th. THEY’RE TOTALLY REDEEMING THEMSELVES!

I was going to make a post titled “I fucking hate the Redskins” in regards to their picks. That should tell you how pleased I am w/ them taking 2 WRs and a receiving TE with their first 3 picks.
I fucking hate the Redskins.

And a CB in the 4th! Now, if Davis and Kelly can play D-line we’re all set.

at least we got someone to put some fire under santana moss’s ass. he’s really been lacking as of late. surprised though with no d-line picks.

this organization is a joke… they could go 3-13 this year with the 32nd ranked d in the league

Is it possible for me to type “Ha HA!” in a Nelson Muntz voice without mentioning that it was in the Nelson Muntz voice?

“this organization is a joke… they could go 3-13 this year with the 32nd ranked d in the league”
Yeah that makes alot of sense. The 8th ranked defense in 2007, the Redskin have all 11 starters returning, and have lost Macklin and who else?
Right. Great logic here buddy.
With nearly 11 million under the cap, to think we are done with our offseason additions is crazy. We certainly have the ammo in next years draft picks, S. Moss and L. Betts to bring in a few good defensive players.
I predict we make a trade for Jason Taylor, and Lito Shepard.

“I’m very excited,” said Zorn, who volunteered that he’d never been in an NFL draft room before.”
Pounding Head on Desk
Also, Mayor you could not be more right about the Jason Taylor thing. I bet you Dan Snyder Tivos every episode of dancing with the stars. Getting an aging pass rusher is textbook for chainsaw Dan.
PS- Who gets hurt this preseason Samuels or Jansen, you know one of them will.
