Manny Kills Da Meat Hook’s Mojo

There are many reasons why we love Da Meat Hook above all others: the panted fingers nails, the “voodoo hands” when he hits a double, his formidable belly, his ability to “overcome.” But most of all, we love his hair. Apparently, Manny Acta does not:

Nationals manager Manny Acta, concerned that injured infielder Dmitri Young’s big, curly Afro was becoming too much of a distraction, told the injured first baseman after Thursday night’s loss to the Mets to have his hair cut before he showed up for Friday night’s game here. … Acta’s order was not as sinister or arbitrary as it might sound. First, the manager knew Young’s “special barber” was in Miami. Second, he said that Young told him he planned to have a trim while here anyway.

I don’t care what anyone says, that shit is straight up sinister. Zimmerman might be the team’s franchise player, but Dmitri is the face of the franchise, and that face just ain’t the same without the ‘fro. And how the hell is a player’s hair a distraction? Particularly a player who isn’t even playing, as the Hook is on the DL currently. I hate to question Manny’s motives, ’cause I have a world of faith in the man, but this reeks of bullshit. Although the Nats did win last night in their first game since Dmitri trimmed his dome piece, so maybe Manny is on to something.

Also, I couldn’t find any photos of the new hairstyle. Hopefully some will surface shortly.
