Stephen Davis Hates the Redskins
By Chris Mottram | February 26, 2008
Davis spent seven years as a Redskin — three of which were fairly monstrous years, highlighted by 17 touchdowns and 1400+ yards in only 14 games in ‘99 — before being cast away after a disappointing ‘02 season and scooped up by the Panthers.
In his first year in Carolina, he gave D.C. the big “fuck you” by rushing for 1,440 yards, while we were stuck with Trung Canidate and his 600 yards as our leading rushing. It would, however, be Davis’ last respectable season.
Not surprisingly, Davis much preferred his time in Carolina, despite having more personal success in D.C. (although he did go to a Super Bowl with the Panthers):
Stephen Davis is in the process of signing a contract with Carolina in order to retire as a Panther … “Even though he played longer with the Redskins, Stephen wanted to retire a Panther,” his agent, David Canter, said today. “There were a lot of different reasons, but it’s mainly a testament to the Richardson family (team owners), general manager Marty Hurney and coach (John) Fox. They are among the classiest people he’s ever been around.”
Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I’m pretty sure what Davis’ agent is saying here is that Dan Snyder is a slimy douchebag and Stephen hated every minute he spent wasting his time playing for him.

So what, Skip Hicks is undeserving of your love?

I think Michael Westbrook just scared him off.

The worst you can say is that the team cut SD loose one year too early, with no viable Plan B to replace his production. Which, come to think of it is pretty damning. But Steve apparently liked it here well enough to keep cashing his paycheck. So yeah, there’s that.

In eleven years from 1993 to 2004 the Redskins won exactly one playoff game. Stephen Davis played ok: 14 carries, 119 yards, two touchdowns against the Lions in the ‘99 playoffs.
Oh well, gooooooo management!

Wow, don’t you have to be some sort of super star to pull off the “retiring as a … ”
Like does Terry Allen sign a one-day contract so he can retire with a certain team? Maybe he should have some team place him on the IR so he can officially end his career where he spent most of it.

In the long and storied history of the Carolina Panthers, I think Davis helping to lead them to their first NFC Championship makes him some sort of super star.

I sold Stephen Davis a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. I was so enamored that I had a big name Redskin at my desk. He signed my mini helmet I had at my desk. It was great.
Fast foward one year, and I see him at Carlisle for training camp. He was driving te same Suburban I sold him, when I approached him he told me to move or he would run me over.
Michale Westbrook did the right thing.

Now does everyone realize how important it is for your job to be your credit?

Stephen Davis is the first person to ever want to run over the guy who sold him his car.

The Mayor sells cars? And here I thought you worked for the government.

That was in 2001. I am currently employed by Starbucks in the morning, and I sell pot to middle school kids during the afternoon.
