Gregg Olson Is My Rated Rookie Eternal
By Jamie Mottram | January 18, 2008
Before getting to today’s edition of Cardboard Icons, I have a confession to make. When launching this two weeks ago, I was unaware of a blog called Cardboard Gods (genius name). If I’d known at the time that such a site existed, I never would’ve used such a similar name. Now that I do though, and I haven’t heard from anyone over there, I’m just gonna keep on keepin’ on. (Arm bash to Jeff Passan for the head’s up.)
Moving ahead, there’s a lot to love about this card. First, Gregg “Otter” Olson, who was pretty awesome his first five years as an Oriole and had a devastating curveball. Second, all things Rated Rookie. That font is the shit. And third, the fashion on display here, including but not limited to the old school hat, wasteband and stirrups. Still, ‘89 Donruss is terrible.

Olson’s curve had a bigger loop than Shockwave at Kings Dominion.

Am I the only one who is a fan of the old school socks and the like over “Manny pants”?

My favorite cards where Olson has the porn stache working. UM is right, his breaking ball fell off the table. How many greggs spell their name with 2 Gs at the end?
Can I make a request for another Orioles reliever? I loved this guy.

Little known fact, Gregg is the father of Mary Kate and Ashley Olson.
Seriously though, where is the Fleer Billy Ripkin error with FUCK written on the bat?
That card was gangster.
