Maryland Getting Better, Still Not Good

    By Chris Mottram | January 16, 2008

boom.jpgThe Terps have picked a good time to stop playing like the worst major conference team in the country. No sir, there are at least half a dozen teams worse than Maryland (examples: Michigan, LSU, Kentucky … okay, maybe not Kentucky) right now.

After losing to American before Thanksgiving, the Terps have won five of their last six. Their only loss was a one-point defeat in Blacksburg to a Virginia Tech team that also isn’t very good. But bright side! They beat RPI monsters such as Charlotte (108), Holy Cross (83), and just last night they beat Wake Forest (78) for their first ACC win. They also had marquee wins over Delaware and Savannah State mixed in there.

But now their schedule takes a turn towards impossible. On Saturday they play at UNC. After that, they have a full week off to contemplate just how badly they were embarrassed in Chapel Hill before taking on Duke at home on the 27th.

From there, if they can just win eight of their remaining 11 ACC games, they could get an at-large. We could indeed be on a highway to hell this season (Boom!):

If only Maryland had any reliable long-range threats…
