What, Too Soon for NFL Mock Drafting?

derrick-harvey-gator.jpgBecause I’m dealing with losing 35-14 after being on the doorstep with a 14-13 lead, let’s join fans of the other 21 ousted NFL teams by looking at the Draft, where the Skins have the 21st (or so) pick.

Rivals has its early mock up, with Washington selecting Florida junior defensive end Derrick Harvey (pictured). The kid’s from Greenbelt, MD, has only played football for five years and is listed at 6’4″, 262. He was the defensive MVP in last season’s national championship, and it seems he’d go swimmingly with Andre Carter (10.5 sacks this season) and Phillip Daniels in bolstering the Skins pass rush.

Elsewhere in the mockness, LSU DT/meast Glenn Dorsey goes No. 1 overall to Miami, Howie Long’s kid Chris goes 2 to St. Louis, Matt Ryan is the first QB off the board at 3 (Atlanta maybe) and 2008 Rookie of the Year Darren McFadden goes 4 (Oakland maybe).

Other notables include QBs Brian Brohm and Andre Woodson going to the Jets and Bears at 5 and 14, respectively. LSU’s Early Doucet is the first WR off the board at 11 to Buffalo. The Blind Side wonderkind Michael Oher goes 12 to Denver, and RBs Steve Slaton and Rashard Mendenhall go near the end of the first round.

Of course, all of this is subject to change over the course of four months of coin flips, 40 times and contract negotiations, but whatever.

Update: Just stumbled upon Hail Redskins’ mock draft database, which is awesome. Of the 19 mocks that have been updated since New Year’s, five have Washington taking Harvey, five have them taking giant Miami DE Calais Campbell and 18 have them going defense.

  1. Welcome to the party. I love a good mock draft, but I can’t imagine the Eagles taking Dan Connor in the first round. He went to high school 2 miles from me, then to PSU, so I’d love to see him as an Eagle, but they never take LBs that high, and despite what the “Buzz” at Rivals says, the Eagles LBs played really well down the stretch, and the Birds keep saying how happy they are with them. They’re looking to upgrade at a few positions, but I don’t see LB being one of them.
