Frerotte ‘Thought He Was a Linebacker’
By Jamie Mottram | January 3, 2008
As mentioned, I had the good fortune of panelizing with ex-Skins LB/pass rushing terror Ken Harvey on yesterday’s Washington Post Live. To his credit, he wasn’t outwardly freaked out at all when I broke out some of his old football cards during introductions.
Anyway, heading to break, Comcast SportsNet showed USC’s Desmond Reed doing a full flip into the endzone during the Rose Bowl. Off-air discussion ensued, leading to Clinton Portis’ three-quarter flip against Dallas and how easily Portis could’ve hurt himself, which would’ve been très embarrassant, on par and even in excess of Gus Frerotte’s infamous headbutt:
Me: “Ken, you were on that team with Frerotte, right?
Ken Harvey: “Yeah. See, Gus thought he was a linebacker.”
Me: “Did you think you were a quarterback?”
Ken Harvey: “No.”
Me: “Fans never stop talking about that headbutt. Do teammates let him live it down?”
(Ken Harvey grabs his cell phone.)
Ken Harvey: “Wanna ask him?”
Ken Harvey, ladies and gentlemen! Don’t forget to pick up your Frerotte Is Fr’Real t-shirts at the door!

It would have been funnier had Marvcus Patton called him.

It would’ve been funnier if he told you to ask Cong. Shuler his opinion.
